Is it a blazer?
It is an orphaned suit coat. BTW, good synopsis of the initial SF experience!

Bummer. So what do I do with it?

How about this:

Surely that is a sportcoat, and not an orphan, right?

But it says it has a 7"drop?

How would I tell if this is a blazer?

Thanks for your help.

That's a sportcoat (very nice). I'm no wizard, but I'm basing that on the fabric, buttons, and pattern. I'm going with orphan on the first one because it didn't just have the drop on the label, it also had the pants size. As far as drop goes, I just learned from SF that it isn't unusual to see a "drop" on a blazer's label - I believe the consensus was that it indicates the tapering between chest and girth measurements on the jacket. Most of the guys around here seem to say that one of the few uses for an orphan is to wear it with nice jeans. Hope this was helpful - I'm convinced that this is a life-long learning experience, but I love the journey.

And I'm going with orphan on that eBay Zegna jacket, based on the color (kind of a medium blue, lighter than a traditional navy blazer), fabric, and buttons.

I'm looking to purchase a good pair of shoes that I can wear both to work (pretty casual, mostly tan chinos or grey trousers with no ties or sports coat), as well as with jeans. I've been wearing my current shoes (merrell world passports) for a few years now just because I find them so comfortable, but they are starting to wear down and since I have no sense of style I thought I'd ask around. Does anybody have any recommendations?

I did try searching, but most of the threads were so old that all the links weren't working and a lot of the suggestions seemed to be out of stock. Would love if anybody had some specific examples of shoes that would work. Thanks!

(budget is $150)

I got those and they fit TTS. US 10 would be too tight for someone who wears 9.5uk in CJ.

Sorry to repeat this question but... nothing to say about this jacket lapels ?
I'm wondering if they're a little wide. General fit ?
Mind you the sleeves are being arranged and the shoulders are just basted after removing the padding and taming the remaining fabric to shape.

Thank you.

Bolstering my dress slack arsenal. Recommend some labels that make flat front slacks that aren't too tapered (i.e. Mabitex). Basically a leg opening between 8.25 and 8.5, as opposed to 7.5. Here's what I have so far: Polo Ralph Lauren (Bradford, Regent, Preston) RLPL Corneliani Incotex Borrelli Belvest Bamford and Sons Zegna Barbera Canali

There are many things about the sport coat that make it look unpleasant and dated: - Width is not the problem with a lapel, the problem is that it's low (not overly so), thus make the sportcoat look dated. - The lapel should be rolled, not pressed - None-vent sportcoat is like a faux pas of early 90's fashion. - The cuffs should be a bit longer.

Ok, thanks for your answer.
The cuffs parts is being arranged.
About the rest... don't know if those can be solved.
I'll try to find possible fixes. If not, maybe I can wear it unbuttoned with jeans.

I've got a $300.00 USD budget for a pair of new shoes (no preowned). Any recommendations for some nice brown oxfords that are not AE?
