What's the purpose of the third jacket front pocket (the one above the regular front pocket on a suit)?

Is this modern? Is it conservative enough for (common theme in my posts) law firms?

Nothing wrong with a black grenadine, though if I were only choosing two colours I would also choose the navy and burgundy.

I would not wear them, but some people can pull those off with a sort of a campy look.

Black ties with a dark colored suit are associated in the general culture with funerals. Unless you want to spend all day saying "no, I'm just wearing a black tie" or have people looking at you weird, I don't recommend wearing a black tie. This link might as well be an argument for bringing back spats or the ascot.

If he's pairing a black tie with something else, like the blog's tan suit or something "sartorial" he's obviously not at a point where he needs to ask for advice on the beginners thread.
