I hear that some shell cordovan get welts when they get wet and the way to get rid of them is brushing and pushing them back with the back of the spoon. Not interested in getting those welts on my shoes or having to deal with getting rid of them.

That's what I am saying. Shell for bad weather is a bad idea.

I agree with you on this.

I'm looking for sport coat and blazer maker recommendations for a coat that has very soft shoulders?

I'm just starting to dabble in upping my style game and I started buying a few sport coats on Ebay with varied results.  So far my favorite sport coat is a 48 L ralph lauren sport coat that I had the shoulder padding taken out of.

I just think big angular shoulder construction of many suits is both uncomfortable and stupid looking.  I bought a a brooks brothers and a canali coat that I really don't like the fit of and may actually make vests out of to salvage something out the purchases.  But I want to buy a brand that suits my taste better.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I am a new convert to braces, and need opinions:

1. Is there anything wrong with wearing black formal braces with a charcoal suit (black shoes)?

2. In the situation that I was photographed without my jacket on, would the following textured braces and tie work OK, or would they clash?

1. No
2. Ok

Does anyone have any recommendations for tie repair in the UK? A pair of mine have just been through the washing machine.

Thanks. I should have worded my question better, but by "No" you mean "no, it's not a problem wearing black formal braces with a charcoal suit and black shoes," right?

I think this is the route I'm going to go with so I have a little more versatility.

Does anyone know anything about this company?

http://www.sartoriastirling.com/

I found a shirt by them at a consignment shop; quality seems to be on par with my Borelli...but I can't find anything more about them then the web page.

Are they custom only? What would retail be?

Why do you care about the retail if you got it for a bargain? And yes they are a custom only operation by the looks of things.

I was concerned about the price to see (if they sold any off-the-rack items) if they might be in my budget for a future purchase.

Thanks for your assistance.

I don't know your life, man. There are plenty of lists for a good five or seven shoe wardrobe out there -- start from there, and excise the items you don't think you'll need.

So... is there a pair of leather/suede shoes that's decent for rainy/snowy/slushy weather? I still can't figure out from what I've read.
