Sephsays! I like the shirt and suit color, try a tie that is a little darker and has some circle or round designs. The darker color will bring out the suit and the circles the shirt IMO.

Does anyone know of a source for sunken metal toe taps? I have a good resource for the actual installation of taps (Sky Valet in DC), but the owners often run out of taps; I've been waiting on a pair of shoes for almost two months, with no end in sight.

 

All I need are the actual metal taps. Thanks!

2 questions:

1. Can the rubber badge under the tongue be cut, removed etc. without diminishing shoes comfort? My sock gets stuck under it and there is a sock fabric build up under the rubber badge.

2. Is there anything special about the sole? It is pinky-browny, unusual for me.

Can anyone comment on the quality of Todd Snyder suits made by Southwick?

For a muscular guy, if a dress shirt is too tight across the upper back, what measurement needs to be increased for a M2M shirt? Half chest? Yoke?

I think it might depend on what maker your goign with. I actually just came across this issue with a shirt I had done by luxire. And all I had to ask them to do for my next shirt is to add a bit across the back just below the yoke.I don't think there's a specific measurement that you're going to be able to increase, but I guess it might depend on where exactly the upper back is that you're referring to. 

The tightness is being caused by my lats when I roll my shoulders forward like to hug someone. Guess I will add an inch to the chest and a half inch to the yoke

hope it works out. but if it's only tightness in the back, might want to ask if you can just add a bit to the back chest, not the front. 

I have an engagement party at a restaurant/lounge tonight. I only have a black blazer available to me right now but I have the rest of my stuff.

-Black blazer, medium grey trousers, black shoes, what shirt? White seems boring but could a light blue gingham or something?

Or should I ditch the blazer and put together an outfit with trousers, dress shirt, tie, sweater (with no jacket)

I would not do gingham at night. It seems more like a casual daytime pattern to me. A plain light blue would work, but white is nice also, especially since it is an evening event. The black blazer isn't ideal, but for evening events, like this one, it is fine.

 

As for going with a sweater and a tie instead of the blazer, it really depends on how formal the event is. Are you expected to wear a jacket?

If you reasonably believe that it's an engagement party where you should be wearing a jacket, then wear the black blazer.

If you reasonably believe that it's an engagement party where it'd be perfectly appropriate to wear a sweater, instead of a blazer, then feel free to wear the sweater, and not the black blazer.

It's impossible for any of us to know what the appropriate formality of dress will be at an engagement party for people we don't know, at an unnamed restaurant/louge.
Light blue gingham could be okay. Then again, it could be too casual. It's difficult to opine on a shirt without seeing it, preferably with the rest of what you'll be wearing (especially the tie).

My buddy (the one getting married) encouraged a jacket of some type but said it would be fine to go sans jacket if needed. Believe me, I'd rather have a navy/grey jacket on me right now, but I don't.

Going without a tie. Black blazer, mid grey Epaulet trousers, black AE park avenues. I could go a light blue solid shirt or a lighter blue gingham.

Why not do what I do? I have a fair number of sport coats and blazers which are 100% wool. But I also have a wool/poly blend blazer. It's an Anderson-Little. It comes in handy when traveling, due to its wrinkle resistance. It looks and feels okay. I don't know, off the top of my head, what its percentages are, but neither do I particularly care.

I wouldn't want to replace all my sport coats and blazers with wool/poly blend items, and I can't really recommend you buy only wool/poly blend, either. But if you occasionally need a more wrinkle resistant jacket, it's not a horrible sin to add a wool/poly blend one to your closet. And don't worry about precisely what percentage poly it is; it's the look and feel of the jacket that matter, not some number on the tag. A 15% poly jacket can look and feel like awful. A 30% poly jacket can look and feel just fine. So examine the jacket before you buy it, and decide for yourself whether it measures up. Or buy it without having a chance to examine it first, so long as it can be easily returned. (If you are buying sport coats, and can't examine them before buying, and can't return them, then you may have bigger problems than your post suggests.)

A wool/poly blend jacket is like a microwave oven. As a general thing, I absolutely wouldn't want to cook with just a microwave oven, and not a real one. But in some situations, a microwave oven can be useful and acceptable kitchen tool. But some are better than others, and determining quality isn't necessarily as simple as checking the advertised number of watts.
