I’m primarily a denim, shoe & boot whore. So relieving to find this place and to know that I’m not alone – HA!
I’ve got a question about cleaning and restoring leather boots – I have a pair of Polo Ralph Lauren brown wing tip boots that are English bench-made. I picked them up about 12-13 years ago, and worn for many years. I’ve over-enthusiastically oiled them, and they have built up a funk of oil and dirt over time. There’s also a lot of dirt and pebbles stuck in the brogue-ing due to the excess oil build up.
They really need to be stripped down to the bare leather to get the oil and dirt out and then refinished.
Anyone have any experiences doing something like this themselves? I’m on the fence about trying it myself, as I don’t want to damage the leather. There are a couple of shoe repair shops that are convenient to where I live, and I’ve had them do work for me over the years that I’ve lived here, but I’m not I sure I trust them to do this job.
I did find this shop on-line in Denver called Dardano’s that seems like they may have the skills to work on a pair of boots like this.
Thanks in advance for any and all feedback! mpp

Here are inline pics:
Any insight to helping me understand which colors and styles would be most versatile? I like the patch pocket one, but it seems to have a high buttoning point. On the other hand I'm 6-3 so maybe that's good?

Anyone have any experiences doing something like this themselves?Get saddle soap from a brand like Fiebings. Brush off surface dirt as much as possible, then scrub with a lightly damp cloth + saddle soap. Old t-shirts work well for the cloth. You can start with modest amounts of the soap and water and then apply more as needed. It should be damp enough to foam up a bit, but not soaking wet. Scrubbing will not remove dye from the leather but will remove old polish and grime. A brush is also helpful here to get into seams. Let dry, then condition with an all-purpose leather cleaner/conditioner, such as Allen Edmonds, or more specific dyed conditioning creams, like Meltonian. If the leather is very dry or you want more luster, Saphir Renovateur is excellent, but expensive. Reno. can also be used to remove some of the older polish, but if gunk is really caked on then you will need to do some scrubbing with the saddle soap.
You can also search the forum for much more extensive directions on shoe cleaning regimens, plus opinions on the various brands of shoe care products.

The shirt is really too green for me, and clashes with the greenish-gray base color of the jacket. It is a cool jacket, but I thin you will have a hard time matching it with many bright colors. I that colors around the orange range would work, but not not really bright ones. Maybe a golden orange like saffron or amber, or a darker orange-red like rust or cinnamon.
post #18283 of 2184311/3/12 at 2:22pmAre Polo Ralph Lauren cashmere v-neck sweaters worth the price of app. $150?
They are being sold on ebay with the tag: "made in China of Italian yarn".
I found a cashmere sweater that runs small, so I'm not sure if it's fake or not.
Here's some pictures of the sweater, does it look real?

As i mainly wear dark brown boat shoes for casual wear with jeans/chinos, casual shirts/sweaters, i want to get some footwear to replace my Adidas Stan Smith trainers - a classic plain white shoe
So was wondering what people think of the above converse slim trainers, for weekend/daytime casual wear (shops, cinema, restaurant, town shopping , friends, etc) with denim jeans, chinos, cargos, and sweatpants,
they look quite versatile so could they be worn with a casual shirt, sweater/cardigan as well as a t-shirt & jacket?
- i just need a casual white shoe but not too sporty like trainers/sneakers are
also do they were a size big? e.g. im a size UK 8, so is size UK 9 more suitable?
thanks
