Do you guys think these Park Avenues are salvegeable/repairable? If so, was thinking about picking them up.

you could probably get those recrafted... to my understanding the replacement of the leather uppers does wonders for park avenues. haven't had a chance to recraft my shoes yet but am looking forward to it.

The scuff on the toe is my biggest concern. I don't own them but I was thinking about buying them if they can be saved. Thanks for the info.

a very newbie question here. what is considered a pleat? the fold on the upper thigh or all the way down to the leg? when people say flat fronts are the pants really have no fold? like jeans or chinos? thanks.

From wikipedia: Pleat Pleats just below the waistband on the front of the garment are typical of many styles of formal and casual trousers including suit trousers and khakis. There may be one, two, three, or no pleats, which may face either direction. When the pleats open towards the pockets they are called reverse pleats (typical of khakis and corduroy trousers) and when they open toward the zipper, they are known as forward pleats. Utilitarian or very casual styles such as jeans and cargo pants are flat-front (without pleats at the waistband) but may have bellows pockets. The Crease is the fold that goes all the way down. Flat front are pants without PLEATS, but they can have a crease.

Reasonably well, with some work. I bought a pair of Parks with a similar issue just to see if I could fix it.

After MANY 'spit shine' applications of black Kiwi polish and judicious use of heat from a hair dryer, I had acceptable success, IMO. It still needs work and a bit more attention after each wearing but it gets better every time I polish it. The flaws that you can see with the camera right on top of it and bright flash are really not visible IRL. This is how it looked after wearing it on a bad weather day and I hadn't polished it before taking the pic.

But my real question, still unanswered is: apart from the fact that the shoes are black, would this shoes look too bulky/chunky for pants like those ?

Hello,

I will attend my friend's wedding this summer, I only have one decent suit which is black and I think I will not wear it to the wedding. Instead, would you consider the following combination appropriate:

Navy blue single-breasted blazer (wool, black buttons)
White shirt
White trousers (cotton)
Grey or dark blue tie
Black oxford shoes

What do you think?

Well I'll stick my neck out and say yes, they look a little chunky to me - I think the fact you're asking the question shows you think so too really

But I guess you could always try them anyway and return them if they're no good (post some pics and you'll find out soon enough!).

Sounds natty enough for a less formal daytime wedding, though perhaps with a jollier tie (search "wedding tie" on here). You could even go for shoes other than black. But you should see what the dress code is - ask your friend. They may be expecting male guests to wear suits.

Well I did ask him a while ago and he said that as it is a summer wedding a little less formal will do aswell. Though he sounded like he wasn't even sure himself...

The ceremony will start at 5 PM and after the church we will move to the party in a seashore restaurant, if that helps at all. I think other than black shoes would make it too casual and not suitable for the evening.

Any other opinions would be greatly appreciated!
