Are these Loake Brogues(Savoy) appropriate to wear with casual pants such as jeans and khakis?

Are they too sleek? Not Clunky enough? Should I get some Derby Brogues instead? Thanks.

Hello. I'm looking for a pair of shoes that are suitable for a formal occasion, business setting or a job interview, but a pair that have a shaft height of 7" or more, in other words a pair of dress boots. I've searched and not found something like this. Closest I found was this:

But these have a zip on their side so they would not be suitable.

I'm looking into buying my first suit but I'm a student and I can't afford a 600-1000 dollar suit. I got an offer from someone who is selling a Gieves and Hawkes suit for $170. Its a 2 piece suit that is medium grey and has pale blue pinstripes. Oh and its 100% Wool. The trousers & jacket are the perfect size for me (not tailored perfect) but good enough.

Is this a worthwhile deal?

This is a question that might be better asked in the Streetwear & Denim forum. I personally think that most balmoral shoes are too formal to pair well with jeans. A blucher version of that shoe would work much better.

Almost any kind of boot is going to look unusual at an interview due to their relative rarity today, but the ones that would be most acceptable would be balmoral dress boots (hard to find) or chelsea or jodphur boots (either of which are relatively easy to find). Chelseas and jodphurs are readily available from Edward Green, Crockett & Jones, and Alfred Sargent, among others. A decent pair is likely to cost more than most of the stuff you'll find at Zappo's, though.

Thank you for the information. I am especially interested in these 'Balmoral' boots and I am searching for them.

By the way, all three types you mentioned look about 6 inches in height. There are none 7" or 8", am I correct? Thank you.

The height of those boots is probably right at 6 or 7". I would think some models would be 7" plus, but I don't have access to mine to measure them right now.

The Edward Green "Shannon" dress boots are the only ones of which I'm aware that are widely available although they are pricey. I have heard that Church's has a model available as a special order and there is some remaining stock of a past Grenson model. The thread below has lots of examples of dress boots and may provide some sources for you that I have not already mentioned.
