How does the Alden Plaza last compare to standard AE lasts? TTS or does this run large?

I might be getting 3 shirts for the BB Corporate Discount and was wondering which ones I should buy?

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatSectionView.process?IWAction=Load&Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=1052

I know the staples would be one white and one blue (light or not)? I'm not really into the stripes and I prefer no buttons on the collars. Which third color should I get and which shirt types? (I cant distinguish between http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=1052&Product_Id=1448658&Parent_Id=662&default_color=BLUE&sort_by=&sectioncolor=&sectionsize= and http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=1052&Product_Id=1448629&Parent_Id=662&default_color=WHITE&sort_by=&sectioncolor=&sectionsize=)

Noob question.

I got into mens fashion about four or five months and I've amassed quite a few dress shirts since then (about 15). I realize that they are just commodities and are going to get "damaged" as I keep wearing them. However, I keep having issues with getting marks on my shirts. Two of my shirts I got pen marks on them. Unfortunately, that is unavoidable as I work as a statistician and often have to write and solve equations on a white board. There is also another shirt from BB that I bought last week which after two wears, I noticed had some odd (but small) mud stains on the arms. I've machine washed them and hand washed them, but no luck.

So my questions:

1. How do you keep your dress shirts spotless?

2. What do you do with dress shirts with small marks and stains? (by small, I mean less than a centimeter).

I wore two of the shirts even with the stains just because I like them. Plus, I paid money for them and don't see a reason

not to enjoy them. I'm a new college grad who's in his first job and I don't have the money to constantly replace these shirts.

For getting out the stains, try getting some OxyClean, dissolving it in a bucket, and soaking your shirts overnight. Then machine wash them.

How noticeable are the pen marks? I wouldn't recommend wearing a shirt with stains/marks on them that others can see. I would have a hard time enjoying the shirts like that. Maybe you could get a blazer and wear that if it covers the pen marks?

Thanks, I'll get some OxyClean.

The pen marks are less than a centimeter in width. They aren't noticeable when I stand in front of the mirror

from about 4+ feet.

I find that one can never go wrong with a sky blue, white, and pink. I know, some people aren't into the pink dress shirts, but if you have a darker skin tone, it works great. Doesn't work for pale people though.

I think it's always good to have a couple dress shirts with button down collars for casual occasions. I have a few and only use them on the weekends with jeans or chinos.

BB has some good striped shirts. Pattern matching isn't good but the shirts have interesting look.

I don't like the BB all cotton dress shirts. After washing, they have a weird look with lots of creases in my experiance. Go with non-iron dress shirts.

Just got a new pair of shoes in the mail yesterday and decided to wear them sockless today (BAD MOVE) they tore up the back of my ankle REALLY bad (in only about 30 minutes of wear). ls this a sign of anything other than me being an idiot? Is this an indication of a sizing problem? I mean they feel great, other than the ankle thing, do I just need to break them in? They're Cole Haan white suede bucks, for reference.

Probably fine. New leather is always stiff.  Socks + bandaid + time, is all you need.

I think you answered your question Cam... ya you need to break them in! happy.gif

Even sockless, no shoes should tear up the back of your ankle REALLY bad. However, I would not take it as a sign of anything else.

I would suggest waiting for the ankle to heal, and then wear it with socks and see if the same thing happen. If so, then you have a problem.

I have had this issue quite a bit recently. I basically bought about 5 new pairs of shoes, and decided to start wearing them to work. Bad idea. I have broken in about 3 of them, but when I wear the other 2 pairs, I bring a backup pair to change into for long walks.

Weird, I've always had a certain level of discomfort when breaking in new shoes, but nothing where the shoe has cut my ankle/foot.

Make sure the sizing is correct...otherwise, I don't know what else to say besides give it some time.

I was hoping that was the case, I have socks and bandaids on now, makes walking tolerable, definitely not gonna do this again. Thanks for the feedback, I'll see how they feel next week after i'm all healed up. The fact that it's really bad was probably exacerbated by the fact that I had to chase a bus this morning, just glad I didn't bleed on my brand new white suede!

New shoes with no socks = bad idea.

New shoes for long wallk = bad idea.
