My friend's first reaction to my Venetian Loafer is - OLD MAN!!!

Personally I would pick Penny Loafers.

I may be attending an opening of an exhibit at the art museum. I am a little confused as what would be appropriate to wear for an event like this. My friend who attends many of these events and other social events suggested "summer dressy, but not necessarily a tie." What's the consensus here?

I wore a suit and tie to an art reception last Friday. Nobody else did, and in fact one lady wore a dress made of ceramic tiles, but I was comfortable with it. Wear what you're comfortable in.

I have tassels in burgundy and pennies in cigar. Love them both. Not a fan of the venetian, a little too plain.

My 82-year-old grandfather wears tassel loafers.

Your mileage may vary.

I go to a ton of exhibition openings as part of my work, and my M.O. is based on the venue:

Museums: suit, dress shirt, no tie.
Proper galleries: nice trousers, dress shirt, maybe a sweater and/or scarf if it's cool out.
First Fridays / galleries with alleyway entrances / similar nonsense: nothing that involves ironing or dry cleaning.

Is this a Grenadine Tie? John Vavartos - Nordstrom Just saw it online and am wondering if it's worth the $57.

Thanks for the suggestions. Wow, a dress made of ceramic tiles? That must have been heavy.

Purchased these (used) Generic Man chukkas (not for me). got them for $27. They appear to be a bit worn but not too bad. Was this a good deal? Thoughts on the shoes?

Pardon if this has been asked a million times before or if a ridiculous question -- can one wear brown shoes with a black suit?

If one wishes to look like a fool - sure!

We've long sinced crossed over to brown or burgundy with other colors of suits (although this has been long forbidden and only relatively recently accepted here in the US) but with black wear black.

lol, I've always abided by that rule, but I thought I'd check to see if the conventional wisdom had had loosened any in recent times. It sure didn't look all that appealing in the mirror, but I don't wear MC that often, so I feel a bit our of my environment putting pieces together. Thanks for the quick reply.

To all who replied, I think I'm gonna go with a tassel loafer from Alden. Probably calf as it's easier on the wallet.

Anyways, given my shoe rotation:

- black AE Park Avenue
- chilli AE Byron
- dark brown AE verona
- black Alden cape cod loafers
- chestnut CJ chelsea
- dark brown AS double monks

Should I go with a black or chilli Weybridge via B&S
