Anyone know of a good alterations tailor in Los Angeles who can do working buttonholes on an unfinished/basted jacket sleeve? I'm looking for competence, rather than cheapness, though I'm still trying to stay within the realm of alterations tailoring if possible.

Thanks in advance.

So I am 20 and in undergrad and I would like to purchase a nice watch. I know its a unwise financial move but I really want a nice watch. Obviously Rolex marketing has embedded my mind with a classic submariner and I was wondering if anyone knows what the cost price of one might be. Also, does anyone work at a watch store and if so what sort of discount do they give to employes and after how long and how hard is to get employed by a watch store.

Any suggestions for a nice watch, I want something classy. I have a leather strap guess watch right now, and its okay but not the same as a nice watch.

At what age did you guys purchase your first nice watch?

I'm a small guy (5'7", 120lbs, 34" chest) and I'm looking to buy a new suit. Can anyone suggest lines that might have something off the rack before I start getting involved in MTM?

Thanks.

Anyone have any experience with Ciro Lendini shoes? I've seen some on Yoox that look decent for cheap, but I still don't want to throw away money on shit shoes...

I'm looking to buy some new clothes to interview in, and am currently looking for a nice pair of oxfords, but am only looking to spend $100-200 on them.

I'm also looking to purchase a new suit but don't want to spend more than probably $500 on it. I also haven't bought a suit in years, haven't had to wear one probably ever except for interviewing and dances in highschool ages ago or funerals/weddings, and so am not exactly sure what I should be looking for or fit.

Any suggestions?

I recently came across this shoes company A. Testoni. How doe the quality of their shoes shoes compare to Allen Emonds? As good, worse...

AE Park Avenues are always on ebay, and are very well-made shoes. I picked mine up for 100, though in an less than perfectly normal size (and pre-owned). You should be able to pick some up for at or less than 200 new.

A. Testoni in general has 3 lines. In the increasing order of quality: the mainline, the Black Label line, and the Amedeo Testoni line. Amedeo Testoni are very well made, can be goodyear welted (which is uncommon for Italian shoes), much harder to find, very expensive, can be exotic/odd looking, and in general several large steps above Allen Edmonds. It's hard to compare Black Label to Allen Edmonds since constructions are different (Bologna vs Goodyear), and so just like most other American/English shoes vs. Italian shoes comparison, it will be subjective. Here is a pair of Amedeo Testoni (pulled from ebay), so that you have an idea of the lining and sole:

I would like a new shoe for the spring and summer, though perhaps one that spans across seasons. I don't wear suits: only odd jackets and pants, or just chinos with a button-down. I like a classic look, nothing too exotic or pointed. Maybe something light in color, that could go with both jeans and mid-grey wool pants. Budget is around $300, but would be willing to put up the money for something really special (Alden?).

Here is what I own:
Black and Brown cordovan AE Leeds
Black AE Park Avenue
Black AE Bel Air Split toes
Burgundy AE monk straps

I wear the brown leeds the most. Any suggestions? I was thinking either a pair of AE macneils or a pair of suede longwings. I'm looking for something versatile that will last a long time. Thank you all.

Hello,

I thought this thread might be a good place to ask where I might be able to find silk (or other matierials like wook, cashmere, even cotton) that would be suitable for making ties.

Links to website and suppliers that enable on-line orders would be appreciated.

Also, I would be curious if there's a way to search this on ebay without getting all of the listings for everything that is made of silk cloth...

Sorry if this has been brought up before, I couldn't find anything in my search.

Thanks.
