Ask A Question, Get An Answer... - Post All Quick Questions Here (Classic menswear) - Page 272

Hi All.

Hoping I can get a bit of advice/reassurance. I am going to a wedding and there were no specific dress instructions on the invite.

I recently picked up a slim fitting grey suit that I really like. My issue was what shirt/tie to wear with it. I ended up getting a nice quality shirt that is also grey, however it is a much lighter shade of grey. I was also just going to wear a black skinny tie with it.

I am by no means a fashion guru, but was wondering if this was acceptable or some kind of fashion no no? To me it all looks fine together.

Thanks

I'd love to, but with shippment and taxes I fear they will cost me over 200$

TAT has all-inclusive pricing...I paid for my $480 quoted suit for that flat amount, including whatever taxes, customs, and shipping costs, given that you're here in the US, and only I think $20 extra for international shipping. I know that his trousers are below $200.

Oh. If I don't have to pay 35% in fees and taxes I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

A suit isn't really necessary. This is an academic setting for undergraduates so the expectation is very low, but if I simply wanted to be good enough I wouldn't be asking about it. I'll probably go to the BB outlet to find a more conservative shirt then the ones I have. What colors for shirt/pants/shoes be would pair with a navy blazer? Besides light grey pants I'm at a loss. It's really needn't be formal at all, I just want to make a good impression. Edit: Also, could I fit cherry GTs or amber iron rangers into the ensemble in a pleasing way?

What's a good place to buy bulk white dress shirts wit french cuff and regular cuff for cheap? Maybe $30-50 range.

Can someone please post a pic of himself in a nicely fitted bespoked suit with arms raised to the sides. I want to see how much different they are to that of rtw ones - batwings and all that.

Thanks!

Wondering if someone can give some kind of input. Sorry if its a silly question.

At the top end of your price range is Charles Tyrwhitt who are perpetually running a 4 shirts for $199 "special". I checked and white poplin french and single cuff shirts are part of it.

A friend of mine wore something similar to his own wedding: grey suit, white shirt, and black tie. Looked fine on him. I think the grey on grey of suit/shirt would look bad, however it is not something I would ever wear personally. I say return the grey shirt and get a white one, but that's just my $0.02. Also make sure the tie and lapels of your suit are in harmony, slim lapel-->slim tie, normal lapel-->normal tie (again, just my $0.02). WAYWT poster PandArts used to pull of the skinny tie rather well, perhaps look to him as a proof of concept.

The grey shirt gives me pause. Sight unseen I would recommend white or light blue. Also how skinny is the tie? Less than 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 inches and you are into the "fashion statement" range, which I am guessing is not where you want to be. Post a picture of yourself in the suit for better critique.

With a blue blazer most pants will work except blue or black (could look too much like a mismatched suit). Besides light grey, think about dark khaki, brown, or olive green. Corduroy works well this time of year, and should be fine with the boots you mention. If you are going to wear pressed grey flannel or something like that I would say stick to shoes over boots. Shoe color is up to you, just match your shoes to your belt (at least in the same color family).

Thanks for the reply. (thanks to Invicta as well).

haha, I agree after looking around on the internet nobody seems to wear a grey shirt with a grey suit, I guess I just figured as it was lighter it wouldnt look to bad. Thinking of just getting a white one. This is really the only picture I have that I took quickly when trying it all on, I know the quality is awful and the angle is awkward as I had to take it myself but maybe it will help.

About the skinny tie, I really dont know the exact width of it, will have to check when I get home. Thanks again.

Yea the grey on grey looks off, you should definitely go with white. The tie looks fine with the suit.

Going to a wedding this weekend. The lady wants me to wear this new suit, but I'm not sure which brown (or black) to go with. Thoughts? It will be with the yellow shirt above, and I have a brown belt for each brown shoe... [of course one of my pairs needs polishing]
