I’ve had the same issue… it’s easy to slim the legs from the inseam, but that doesn’t really bring in the waist and thigh area. The only solution I’ve seen is actually taking it in from either side’s outseem, but that usually makes the pocket opening smaller and can mess around with the shape and fit of the pants. It sort of just depends on “how much” you need taken in. I’d take it to a good tailor (or two) and see what they think. As a reference, I’ve had pants altered to bring in the waist, butt, thighs and slim the legs for a total cost of less than $40 Cad .

More details please… You mean on the outside of the lapels, like pick stitching? Or underneath/behind the lapels, and only on “one side” (you mean just the outside of each, or only on one of the lapels?)

I find their oxfords a little too sleek (I know, not the words I usually use to describe AE’s)… so I’d either go with a full brogue model like the Strand or a more casual finish like suede (Cambridge) or any sort of blutcher or derby (Eg Delray) Probably you’re better off with just a more casual type of shoe like a loafer (Lucca)

There are a bunch of TO members here… you can PM me and I can send you a few names… or just check the retail map for some local shirtmakers (I can link you if you can’t find it). I’ve seen a few of their shirts but haven’t personally ordered so I can’t comment on the fit, construction, or suggestions…

I would go with Silk knots. I do not know where to find them. Good question/post.

I think that you are on to something with the silk knots.

Don't you think it is a bit tacky, though, when people wear pre-tied silk knots? It seems to me that one practical definition of a gentleman today is he who ties his own silk knots.

Thoughts?

Surely you can but why would you want to? Wear another color.

QUESTION:
What is the difference between French and Italian sizing? I thought all Euro countries were the same.
I'm trying to purchase a suit off Yoox, and I am a size 44. When I click 44, it says that the label denotes it is a size 50 (French). I tried another size 44 item and it says the label denotes it is a size 54 (Italian), which I am used to. So...is a French 50 = Italian 54? Or is Yoox just screwed up (more than it already is)?

The vast majority of it, if not all of it, is burberry london. Prorsum is usually way more avante-garde. I used to work at Nordstrom and the interesting difference to me was the weight of the garments. It seemed like a prorsum trench weighed twice as much. Plus the price point is right for the london line

I am close to pulling the trigger on my first pair of really nice shoes, and I think I've decided on these Alden wingtips http://www.aldenshop.com/DrawOneShoe.asp?CategoryID=35 I'm planning to just call the Alden store in San Francisco to order them, but am curious if there is anywhere to get a deal/discount on them.

I'm a 47" around the chest and 31 or 32 in the waist, and when I bought this suit with "free tailoring" it still fit like a 55 gallon drum. What would I specifically have to tell a tailor if I wanted the suit to fit like Bronson's suits fit in Death Wish?

Question from a first time poster!

I'm a button down fanatic who's just sick of the same old patterns (stripes and spots, some paisleys here and there) that I find everywhere. Yeah, I come across a unique pattern on occasion at the mall or thrift, but otherwise I just can't find anything unique (pattern-wise) without blowing my whole paycheck on a couple shirts. Any tips on where to shop, online or otherwise, in order to get a better selection of "unique" dress shirts? Maybe even a few brands to keep an eye on and where to find them.
