This is pretty tough and we could all probably use some help with this. There's only so many times you can go with a pashmina shawl, cashmere sweater, necklace, etc. A couple of ideas I'll throw out there, appropriate for different types of women in your life:

  • Luxurious tech accessories (like high-end iPad covers and stuff).
  • They all like gift certificates for wasteful crap like spa days.
  • Tasteful sterling jewelry. She probably has a lot of stuff made of precious stones, gold, etc. but might not have nice basics.
  • Old-school glamourous stuff for her makeup table: crystal decanters, mirror trays, things like that.
  • Infusing gadgets for tea, French press coffee, etc that can be used on the go (i.e. not things for the kitchen, which for wife/gf is a red flag)

It actually is, that's moon dust you can see at the end. Nah seriously though, it's kind of hard to get pictures of inside the toebox of a shoe, those are what I managed. I thought I remembered reading that if there's stitching like that inside a shoe, it has Blake construction, but a pair of Allen Edmonds loafers I have, which is Goodyear welted, has a similar stitching though it's closer to where the upper meets the insole. If no one can tell anything confidently from this, then I understand, but I thought I'd present it to see if anyone had any insight.

I saw this out of context, and I thought I was looking at a damaged car.

Mothers and in-laws have enjoyed weekend brunch. As time passes, they like the simple things like getting together -- but at the newer restaurants getting the publicity. You know they still want their friends to be impressed... When these ladies are happy, our lives are happier.

Girlfriends & wives won't complain too much about jewelry -- but they want to pick it out. Otherwise San Francisco airport spoils them too much. We can travel fairly easily and score last minute flight deals for domestic (and sometimes international) trips. A weekend in wine country or a ski resort is easy enough.

And that leaves sisters -- who are ok with spa certificates. One year we paired cashmere throw blankets with Serendipity NYC's frozen hot chocolate.

It's the thoughtfulness that counts.

In case anyone is unaware, the annual style forum charity auction is underway over in this thread. Go bid!

Can I wear these brogues with chinos? Or they are too dressy? I'm thinking about khaki/grey/white chinos with a navy blazer http://imgur.com/gViQHbH

Yes, you can.  Or you could buy nicer ones and do the same. :)

Wanted to ask a quick question here. What is your opinion on these crocodile leather gloves?

How about you start by telling us what your opinion on them is, and why? Since you're asking about them, you must have some sort of opinion of them. Let's hear it.

Well, I like that they are different, yet not overly stylised like some of the higher end gloves I've seen on sites, yet they still look high end/classy. I sort of like them, but I don't trust my opinion, so I want to know what the general public thinks and if it's worth buying them.

I think they're a bit tacky, but I don't like exotic leather so take that into account.

I always lose my gloves, so any pair of gloves that is available and intact seems great to me.

I think gloves can be cool when made of real crocodile leather. If it's a stamped crocodile pattern on some other kind of leather, then not so cool.

Basically fake anything isn't cool.

+1

Though I do prefer the croc pattern for belts over gloves/shoes
