This may be a good first buy. It's got patch pockets (which I love) if you like them. They sell your size and you can return it, so if it doesn't fit, there's no skin off your back. I believe return shipping is free.

Don't get peak lapels. Not for your only jacket.

But befre you order, are you sure about your jacket size? you may want to post a fit pic in that jacket and some people can tell you if you should size up or down.

I bought a jacket at the Rack for $600 one time. Returned it and got a different one online that fit much much much better, for cheaper. Now I have two. Soon three. All cheaper than the rack. And better.

I second this. Willing to help you look if you want. (You should also heavily consider returning that thing)

Edit: I was going to recommend Suit Supply too!

That looks perfect for what I'm looking for. Once I know I have my measurements down I'll spring for it. I'll hold off on peak lapels until this stuff has become second nature to me.

I am most definitely NOT sure, lol. Still trying to figure it all out. I hope this pic helps clear things up.

Will be returning it very soon.

I hope this pic is OK in this thread - I know theres a fit thread all by itself, so I can post it there instead if need be.

The suit is a Joseph Abboud I bought a long time ago, from the Rack. Lots and lots of creasing. Lower back and arms especially. I think it's too small -- maybe I should lose 5-10lbs? The only tailoring I did was shortening the sleeves and the pants (how'd I do on that part? Actually, is any part of the suit fitted properly at all? ).

The jacket on the right was Tommy Hilfiger. No tailoring.

Both suits are the same size.

Still new to all this, please forgive! All comments 110% appreciated and much needed.

Left is bad. right is passable I think. Maybe Mimo can critique if the sports coat is the right size.. I think it works but the shoulders look a bit wide. Don't post those pics in the tailoring thread since you're not looking for details for that particular suit or coat.

Use the jacket to compare against sizes at suitsupply. If you go there and click on the fit critique thing, they will have measurements for you to compare. The shoulder is the most important.

The suit is a 2/10. Maybe. So much tailoring needed it's not worth it.

Eek. Can't get much worse than 2/10, lol. Both jackets are actually the same size (38). Do you really think I need to size down? Trying to put on 38s is often a pretty tight fit for me, I can't imagine what something smaller would be like.

My humble and blunt opinion on the suit on the left side.
The jacket makes it seem like u have a big Arse.
The jacket is pulling in the back by your shoulders or right beneath.
The front of the jacket, you can see a significant pull and hence the crease.
Conclusion, horrible fit. It is not you but it is the suit.
I wudnt invest any more money on this suit and return it if u can

This.

It seriously looks like if you exhale in the first suit the button will probably kill someone. Again this is the suit's fault not yours.
The pics are small but from what I can see the trou are well fit. I also like the second jacket alot more fit wise.

I believe the only problem with the left suit is that the chest and sides are too small. Many on here don't like the very slim fitted look (GQ) and will give you crap for not being an ultra conservative ( these being the same guys that will cry blasphemy if you wear fun socks) but I honestly think it looks great. My suggestion would be to condider keeping the shoulder size, if not tring just one more up, but nothing with ultra padding.

Hope I was of some help. Just my .02

Hi, any suggestions for shirt + tie colors for this medium grey suit? Occasion is a summer wedding.

My gut was to go with white shirt and a solid or grenadine navy tie.

And can somebody please link me to that thread with the compilation of "best" or favorite fits? Thanks

Also in case anyone brings it up, I know the suit sucks. smile.gif

Overall fit looks nice from that photo. Like the shirt collar. Not crazy about the color combo. Each piece looks nice separate though.

Can't go wrong with a white shirt and a navy grenadine tie. Since it's summer, you may go with a lighter blue, but either should be fine. You might get accused of dressing a bit boring, but I tend to think that guests at a wedding shouldn't call too much attention to themselves.

Pale pink shirt with button down collar. Blue bow tie with white dots (Churchill dot). Yeah, some people don't believe that button down collars should be worn with suits, but even many of those who accept such a rule make an exception for bow ties.

There. That's a pretty arbitrary couple of choices, but since precisely 11.3 gazillion shirt/tie combos would work perfectly well with a medium grey suit, and "summer wedding" could be anything from a casual dress outdoor occasion in the park on the Oregon coast, to an evening thing at a European cathedral, I took a shot.

A clean, pressed, properly fitting grey suit will leave you looking better than the vast majority of men in most settings. Moreover, if the suit fits you, you'll not simply look better than most of the other men around you, you'll likely feel better, too. And that shows in various subtle ways. So don't worry about the suckfulness of the suit. (Besides, the suit doesn't look obviously egregious to me, not that the accompanying photo would necessarily show its faults.)
