Need advice!

Hey all,

I have a few questions. I typically only wear a V-neck sweater over a dress shirt and tie. Chinos and tassel loafers are worn with this.

Is there a rule in society that women wear tons of colors to attract the opposite sex and men wear almost no colors to attract the opposite sex?

I've read on this forum that one bright color is all that is needed. You know, more than one bright piece of clothing looks bad. Is that right? No matching should happen?

Are these acceptable with chinos and v neck with tie?
:http://m.asos.com/mt/www.asos.com/House-of-Hounds/House-of-Hounds-Alfred-Velvet-Loafers/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2741716&cid=4209&Rf-200=1&sh=0&pge=3&pgesize=12&sort=-1&clr=Red

If so, what colors of chinos would they work with?

Also, would a bright colored tie be fine with these shoes?

Thanks,
Shane

Can someone recommend a brand for a quality balmoral/oxford, or even a blucher, that is $200 or under, preferably? I prefer smooth/wholecut (i.e no caps, wingtips, etc). They dont need to be the best shoes ever, just to hold me over as an entry shoe into the workforce until I can buy myself a proper shoe. I would prefer a shoe that doesnt have the large, chunky rubber sole that my current Eccos do and maintains a classy profile.

Thanks for your time!

In principle, there is nothing wrong with the outfit you propose. In terms of colors, you should worry about what makes you comfortable rather than what attracts the women - some people get away with bright colors, while others would look silly. Beware of very bright colors though - while they can be fun sometimes, they are harder to combine well and you'll find shades of grey, navy and brown more versatile.

Check this thread for inspiration on casual "classic" looks http://www.styleforum.net/t/253842/waywrn-mc-casual-style

I enjoyed this article on colors: http://putthison.com/post/26983299264/coordinating-colors-deciding-on-whether-any
Also check this: http://dieworkwear.com/post/4064901328/in-praise-of-contrast . It really makes the case for building your wardrobe mostly with blue, gray and brown.

Now, those shoes: if you are looking for decent tassel loafers for cheap, check Meermin: www.meermin.es. I am not offended by the shoes you posted for the price, but you can do a lot better for just a little more.

First Black Lapel suit. Excellent construction and details. Fit has some issues though. Keep in mind I am 6' and 148lbs.

What are people's impressions of fit, and of my alterations? I know this one needs work - see my comments below.

My thoughts on what's needed:

Jacket

Shoulders - Minus .75 inches (right now they hang over my natural shoulders a decent amount - see exaggerated "V" shape in the shot from behind)

Chest - Minus .5 inches (back shot shows billowing)

Waist - Plus .75 inches (right now it's much too supressed)

Hips - Plus .5 inches

Sleeves - Minus .5 inches (right now I show no cuff on a shirt I consider well fitting)

Pants

Length - Plus .75 inches

Waist - Plus 1 inch (much too tight)

Rise - Plus .75 inches (too tight in the seat)

The shoulder looks fine; don't touch it.

Let the trouser hem down another inch.

Out of the following, which do you guys recommend?

1) kenilworth $295

http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF8005_1_40000000001_-1

2) provo $175

http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF4214_1_40000000001_-1

3) rawlins black calf on sale $247

http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF3608_1_40000000001_-1

4) ithaca black leather on sale $147

http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF6214_1_40000000001_-1

Are seconds usually available in all styles? Even those on sale? And how likely am I to experience the "bowing out" issue that has plagued AE lately?

Is it ok to get rubber soled shoes or do I need to go with leather? I live in CA so inclement weather is really a moot point...

Hello everyone!

So, I'm new to the world of fashion and honestly just overall dressing appropriately (like a gentleman). I'm sure I'll introduce myself in a few other threads and areas but I'm so excited to finally begin building my style. As many gents here, I do have a very small budget but will be working to sell some items to build some cash. I am working on even the fundamental level (the basics). All help is appreciated! I'll be scouring the forum and various other sites, Pinterest, mags...and the like, for ideas and overall to try and immerse myself in men's fashion.

Something I've been working on recently (past week) is understanding and learning about quality brands/companies. The idea for me is to #1 Build with good (not necessarily great) items now and #2 When able, find great bargains of high quality items. Appreciate any and all help/advice/suggestions as I am truthfully at the beginning of this journey.

Info about me:

28 male, married, 2 year old - 5'7 165 pounds, 16 1/2 neck, 31in sleeve, 40 chest, 32 waste, 7.5 shoe size.

So, now for my first question:

Florsheim Loafers - Mahogeny - leader soles

----These are used at about $15-$20...Yes (if yes what to wear with) or No (why?)?

Thanks Guys!

Kenilworth. The Provo and Ithaca are I think a part of "ae", Allen Edmonds lower end line and use inferior leathers. Age will shoe on those very quickly.

What should I buy for my first suit?

I came across this http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1674251651/the-tailor-truck-with-3d-body-scanning-the-future?ref=category

and for $400, they will custom make me a suit (btw I don't know my measurements). Is this worth it? If not, where and what brand should I buy? Also do I get navy (dark?) or black first?

Any tips or advice is much appreciated. Thank you!

btw my budget is "cheap is better" Not looking to pay more than $400.

Definitely get navy first. If you search for "black suits", you'll get many heated discussions, but the prevailing opinion will be to just don't do that.

You didn't write where you are located, but take a look at the recommendations above (Suitsupply and the suit quality thread for options). How fast do you need your suit? It is always risky to recommend a new operation like that when there is no previous experience. IMHO, a safer and faster option would be to just get a decent RTW first, especially if you are not a difficult body type to fit - you can see what you are getting. Once you already have your first suit, you will be in better position to experiment with custom operations like that.

I'm a big guy. I was wondering if Clarks Desert Boots would fit a big build and what colour? Any suggestions?
