Though I think it a little boring, I was thinking of a nicer plain toe blucher in dark brown calf - but please offer suggestions!  I sure like the look of a single monk, but worry that it could be too flashy.  Any academics care to comment?

AE Kenilworth will work if you are ok with a blutcher.

Does anyone know the brand and model of this jacket? I've tried all the usual wax cotton suspects but no leads so far...

I have a brown cashmere overcoat and was wondering what to do about the fit.  How exactly is a topcoat supposed to fit?  If this helps, the coat is long, coming down close to my calves, and single breasted.

I guess I can/should rephrase my question:

Is it appropriate to wear an overcoat thats meant for a SC under it without the SC, making the coat a bit baggier?

depends on how baggy and how it looks
i have a coat that fit great without a jacket underneath but decided to size up since i wanted to pull double duty and be able to wear it over a jacket as well
i do wish i had just gotten the smaller size but i still wear the coat by itself when i can

you can see that the shoulders look a little big here
but it's not terribly big

also i either keep the coat open the way it is in the picture... or buttoned but with my hands in the pocket kinda holding the coat tighter around my body to avoid showing how baggy/roomy the body of the coat is without a jacket underneath

here's a pic of the coat with a suit jacket underneath

What do you guys think?
I've been looking for a black pair of boots that I could wear for semi-formal events
as well as on casual occasions and these came into my sight.

I know they've got Ikea stores in Canada. Is there one near you? If so, I can recommend Ikea's giant shoehorn, assuming compactness and portability aren't important to you.

For small ones, many shoe stores will give you one as a freebie, just for asking. Otherwise, I'm guessing they could be had for under a buck from any of a number of Walmart-like places. They're not made of horn or anything, but they're perfectly functional.

I've got a silk knit sweater I'd like to wear tomorrow but the cuffs are stretched out due to pushing the sleeves up. Is there any way I can shrink them back to size without damaging the sweater?

just wash it and it should go back. that's what happens with my knits.

I put them in the dryer on 'air dry' so there isn't significant heat enough to make them shrink

I'm trying to avoid washing it because my washing machine takes forever and, to be honest, I don't trust it. Would soaking in warm water, using the towel method to dry it, and going over with an iron work?

What kind of tie could I wear under this v-neck sweater if I wear a white shirt underneath?

Also, would it be good if I wore grey chinos with this top?
