don't think about revenge. let the police handle it. no offense meant, but it doens't sound like violence is your cup of tea. keep your self safe.

This is good advice as the first part of not being victimized is to look alive and not be viewed as an easy target: be aware of yourself and of your surroundings. If you are feeling threatened be sure everyone around knows you have an eye out. And don''t give an assailant your back. ~ H

Just to pile on, reporting the incident to the police is a no-brainer.

I got mugged when I was probably around fourteen. A friend and I were walking to a convenience store when a van rolled up and a guy wearing a ski mask jumped out with a knife. We had seen the van acting shady previously, but we really didn't think too much of it. So he proceeded to tell us to give him our stuff, and while my friend denies having anything, I freaked out and threw all of my stuff on the ground.

It ended up being like a dollar thirty-five in change, some Altoids, a cookie, a bottle of propel and my phone. The only real loss was my phone. So the guy bends down to pick up the change. I regret not thinking fast enough and kicking him in the face, as I had on heavy boots.

So he grabs the change in one swoop and then gets back in the van and they drive off. I did manage to get the plates as they drove off though. We walked back to my friends house and called the police. They investigated and found the guys and prosecuted them. No clue how it turned out though as I wasn't really notified any further than the trial.

As they taught us back "in the day", if you find yourself in the "kill zone" of an ambush, the best chance for survival is to assault the ambush and annihilate your attacker(s). Should such not be an option for you, run like the wind...and pray they don't have a gun! In any event, report it to the police.

Call the police,

Join a self defence group so next time will think better and not be giving up your back.

Up the $25 next time first before playing such a foolish game. You said you have never even been in a fight let alone kicked someones ass but you would stand up to a mugger(who could be nucking futs or worse).

Glad you are not writing this from the hospital.

I don't know if those that said opined that they'd kick the mugger's ass is serious or not but IMHO that is a very bad idea. If you get into a situation that is life threatening, always go for the exit. Your life is worth more than the contents of your wallet, and it is probable the mugger has no qualms about hurting or killing you to get away. Walk away unharmed and you've won the round.

Get yourself fitted with this-

Honestly, I would not have thought less of you had you cleaned his clock with a few haymakers. You are lucky that it was only one dude. Had it been more, they would have taken the safety in numbers and cowardly inflicted some more damage. I am never the aggressor so I would have no problem if a punk like that got his eyes ripped out of their sockets. Don't get down on yourself, he's the one that king hit you. You did the gentlemanly thing. Unfortunately, it doesn't always pan out.

For those who said he should have kicked his ass, what happens the next time, when the guy is carrying a knife, or has a few mates with him ?

I'd venture to say that most of the people saying 'kick his ass' have never actually seen a Samoan.

Call me a *****, but there's no way I'm going to toe to toe with one of those Pacific Island boys over twenty five bucks. He can have it.

That and the fact that he may have a knife and feel backed into using it. Its money, not worth losing an eye or worse.

Anybody who says they would have kicked his ass instead, I think its easy to say from the comfort of your office chair, but in the same situation, not knowing how desperate or loco the guy is, I am not so sure.
