So which is it:

2009 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing

or a 1950's 300SL?

This is the ago old debate of timeless classic vs. modern luxury and style

To be absolutely honest, either of them would be acceptable. I'd be a little scared to drive the 1950's version though. It would be badass to show up to school in the 09 model.

There is no question, on Styleforum. The 1954-1957 300SL came with bespoke luggage.

Before the pictures I would have said the 1950's model, but wow - that's a nice looking car.

The 1950's version is very exhausting to drive, it gets very hot in the cabin and is unpractical in pretty much every way. It was a incredibly advanced car at the time both performance and stylewise intstantly iconic. I think as an investment this car is hard to beat. The 09 version is, no surprise here, tacky. It just lacks elegance and style. It is like a 14 year old boy drawing a picture of his dream car 'pimped' and on steroïds. Like a west coast customs version of a tastefull classic.

Yet I have to add, the styling of the 09 is much better than any of the other supercars mercedes has made recently. It is more subdued and refined than a mc laren mercedes which was the styling equivalent of a childrapist stroking himself in public.
