Arctic Monkeys on paper sounds like a band right up my alley but I can't stand them. But their look and inspiration is my cup of tea

The first two Interpol were good, the newest one is just too much of the same thing. I find The National is much better (that's along the same 'vibe' as Interpol).

Early MBV I don't get. Loveless I love (pun unintended), but before that, was just... meh.

Same sentiments with Neutral Milk Hotel before "In the Aeroplane..."

I don't like Terror Twilight. It doesn't make any sense. I like everything from Malkmus before and after that damned album. I try and try but fail and fail at enjoying it. It would just be nice to have that extra Pavement album to choose from when I'm in the mood. Oh well, at least I have a Brighten the Corners re-issue to look forward to.

As with everything, 10 years ago she was hotter (as was I, probably). And more willing to trade horses on the sorts of compromises that make up a relationship. Like you watch Spice World with me and I'll XXXXX you afterwards. That sort of give-and-take that marks a keeper.

another one is Big Star

most of my ex-skinhead friends love this band, as they were a groundbreaker in "powerpop" (one of my fave genres), but I just can't get into it no matter how much I try to like it

and similarly I can't get into Rose Tattoo either, lord knows I tried

Great thread.

I agree with the poster above who finds it easy to love Radiohead and Sigur Ros. Neutral Milk Hotel hasn't required any effort from me, either--it's been out for years but I still have to ration my listening of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea or it'll be playing all the time.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is a band that I'm into, but feel like I don't quite appreciate enough. Some of their stuff can be a lot of work.

+1 on Neutral Milk Hotel (agreed on something, Sauce), Wilco (I really tried, I'd much rather hear old Neil Young or something instead), and Big Star.

Nobody honestly likes the Hafler Trio. People own their records as some sort of bizarre cred factor, but no one really enjoys putting one of those records on. Nurse With Wound and anything with David Tibet are pure wankery as well.

Post post-punk/Goth era Cure (eg. seventeen seconds, faith)... aside from singles on Staring at the Sea...
