DEAR AMERICAN:I NEED TO ASK YOU TO SUPPORT AN URGENT SECRET BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP WITH A
TRANSFER OF FUNDS OF GREAT MAGNITUDE.
I AM MINISTRY OF
THE TREASURY OF THE REPUBLIC OF AMERICA. MY COUNTRY HAS HAD CRISIS THAT
HAS CAUSED THE NEED FOR LARGE TRANSFER OF FUNDS OF 800 BILLION DOLLARSUS. IF YOU WOULD ASSIST ME IN THIS TRANSFER, IT WOULD BE MOST
PROFITABLE TO YOU.
I AM WORKING
WITH MR. PHIL GRAM, LOBBYIST FOR UBS, WHO WILL BE MY REPLACEMENT ASMINISTRY OF THE TREASURY IN JANUARY. AS A SENATOR, YOU MAY KNOW HIM ASTHE LEADER OF THE AMERICAN BANKING DEREGULATION MOVEMENT IN THE 1990S.
THIS TRANSACTIN IS 100% SAFE.
THIS IS A MATTER
OF GREAT URGENCY. WE NEED A BLANK CHECK. WE NEED FUNDS AS QUICKLY ASPOSSIBLE. WE CANNOT DIRECTLY TRANSFER THOSE FUNDS IN THE NAMES OF OURCLOSE FRIENDS BECAUSE WE ARE CONSTANTLY UNDER SURVEILLANCE. MY FAMILYLAWYER ADVISED ME THAT I SHOULD LOOK FOR A RELIABLE AND TRUSTWORTHYPERSON WHO WILL ACT AS A NEXT OF KIN SO THE FUNDS CAN BE TRANSFERRED.

PLEASE REPLY
WITH ALL OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, IRA AND COLLEGE FUND ACCOUNT NUMBERS AND
THOSE OF YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN TO
WALLSTREETBAILOUT@TREASURY.GOV SO THAT WE MAY TRANSFER YOUR COMMISSION
FOR THIS TRANSACTION. AFTER I RECEIVE THAT INFORMATION, I WILL RESPOND
WITH DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT SAFEGUARDS THAT WILL BE USED TO PROTECT
THE FUNDS.
YOURS FAITHFULLY MINISTER OF TREASURY PAULSON

Didn't a someone make some guys from Nigeria reenact the "dead parrot" skit from Monty Python under the pretense that he would send them banking information?

I bet out of every 1000 emails, someone complies. Many probably inquire. People are generally dumb.

I have a friend that works for the Aus Gov in tracking down fraudsters like this and you would be suprised at how many people get taken in by this sort of thing.

Admittedly the ones that make the most cash are a little more sofisticated than the example posted above!

I remember there was a website detailing histories of counter-con jobs for these email spam cons. Was very enjoyable

Yeah, I forget the name but it was hilarious. The scam with laptop computers was to fake sending 50 or so units and have them pay for the shipping which turns out to be a toilet or something ridiculous.
