As stupid as it sounds, the ring is probably for me more than it is for her. In her job, she has a social circle that includes the governor, and other wealthy families whose last names are household names. While not trying to impress those people, I still can't have my woman running around in a pleb ring as not only would it reflect badly on me but I would not feel right as I spend plenty of money on myself and fuss over details and quality.

I purchased from USAA's diamond buying service as their prices were competitive and I do all of my banking, car buying and insurance through them and am generally loyal to them as a customer as they have taken great care of me. In addition, they offered a 12-month payment plan which I accepted even though I had cash for the ring. 12 equal payments with no interest is cheaper than cash icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I ordered a GIA certified "excellent" cut (classic brilliant in a Tiffany-type platinum setting), Color G, Clarity VVS2, Carat 1.07 which I think is a good size since I was shooting for around 1 carat.

Should arrive tomorrow!

I'm seriously dreading buying a ring. I put months of research into selecting fabric for a sport coat or obsessing over the details of a pair of shoes. I can only imagine how anal I'll be selecting something that (hopefully) will be around everyday for the rest of my life...

I believe it is called the Conero in suede graphite.

I know that only a few stores carry select styles and I know colors/styles are made expressly for specific stores.
