I was in search of a black bow tie to wear with a midnight blue velvet jacket with black trim around the lapels. I could not find a decent self-tie, black velvet bow tie (other than TF at $250), so I settled on this and I am very happy:

well you can't really go wrong with Paul Stuart! big fan of phineas cole stuff, too. did you get a copy of the new spring catalogue? amazing stuff, as usual!

It is indeed. And the young Japanese tailors at the very hip alternations place where I went today were totally into the tie, especially when I showed them the fringing. I had to give them the Post-Imperial web address before I could leave!

It's great stuff, although I am not a huge fan of their shoulder. I prefer a slightly more roped design.
