Sold it to one of my fraternity brothers. He was obsessed with it the entire time I knew him and I honestly beat the shit out of the thing over the course of college. (I was/am an idiot.) Still, great watch.

that is teh sad. go find it and make it feel all better please. and i agree, it is a great watch. what year was yours?

It was a 2005, I believe. I bought it in the Cayman Islands in '06. Honestly back then I was completely unaware of anything other than "I want a Rolex." (I was/am an idiot.)

I saw my buddy a few months ago and he's still wearing it actually. I doubt he'll give it back to me. He really wanted it because apparently every male in his immediate family bought a Rolex upon securing their first job and he had just landed a gig as I was leaving after my senior year. I think the sentimentality is too deep at this point.

i have been there too. oh wait, i just was. not the caymans, the i want a rolex phase.

sounds like it went to a happy home, and that your buddy will treasure it. that is what counts.

I don't wear a watch at all anymore. Though one day, sooner than later, I'm getting my hands on an IWC Mark XVII and never looking back.

You like the tripple date window?
Kap, indeed I do. I remember us having an exchange about that very feature in the Watch Appreciation thread (IIRC). I know you're a XV purist through-and-through, but I'm a fan of the triple date window and the small red accent. I think it adds a bit of visual interest that breaks up the dial. My only real reservation is the size (41mm). I don't have the largest wrists on earth, so it will be interesting to see how it fares. I haven't even gone into a store to try one on, lest my impulses get the best of me.

Ah, I'd forgotten about that. As for the size, my 38mm one wears at least as large as a 40mm sub, due to the larger dial vs bezel.

As the xvii is the one you have your eye on, I hope the size will work for you :-)
