Summer cologne/fragrance recommendation?

Hello all,

I live in Miami (where it's 70-90 degrees year-round) and would like to start trying out some new colognes/fragrances. I'm looking for something light to be worn in summer weather.

Any recommendations?

A favorite of mine is Allure Sport by Chanel, clean fragrance.

You might check the scent of the day thread for recs and discussion. More content than I can summarize here from multiple sources.

Agreed. Or, do a general forum search as there are probably 15 or more fragrance recommendation threads...

I'll tell you which one I DON'T recommend: Bvlgari Aqua Marine. Smells like a generic cologne from the late 80s/early 90s...like phony Obsession.

The other fragrance threads are very loooooong. Good luck finding anything about summer fragrances.

The green tea (especially with mint) and white tea fragrances from L'Occitane are my hands-down favorites. Their scents are crisp, clean and lasting. They're decently priced too at around $45US or so.

Yes, I tried looking at the other threads but they are too long and too disorganized.

They are organized very very well. Chronologically. After that it's a free-for-all.

As for summer, opinions vary, but my recs are:

classic colognes:
Eau Sauvage
Signoricci
Acqua di Parma
Monsieur de Givenchy
(these are nearly interchangeable, top quality, minor differences in the drydown, but everyone should have at least one of these)

classics:
Guerlain Vetiver
Guerlain Heritage
CDG 2 Man (not really a classic but great)
Kouros Fraicheur (or the original, but it's a bit heavy for summer)

bright, clean, and cheerful:
New West
Platinum Egoiste
Clinique Happy
SCS Bay Rum with a Twist (cheep!)
Pure White Linen (yes, it's a wimmen's scent, so what? Smells great)

Summer Orientals:
Caron Third Man
Herrera for Men

Try them and see which ones work for you. Not all of them will, so take your time and wear them for a few hours before pulling the trigger. Some scents start out great but go sideways in the drydown, and this happens for any numbers of reasons (sensitivities, your chemistry, the soap you last used). Good luck.

I'll also add to Thomas' nice list:

Eau de Lalique
Hermes Eau d'orange Verte (great, but drawback is it has very poor longevity)

Both are nice (especially the Lalique) and won't break the bank when bought online at discounters.

These are both great. My favorites are the original lemony Acqua di Parma and the Acqua di Parma Cipresso.

Yeah, I have giant (200ml!) bottles of each one and they're both a summer staple. Though, to be honest, I prefer Malle Bigarade or Bigarade Concentree... but as expensive as they are, I can't use them with the reckless abandon I can the Hermes or Lalique...

A few others that just popped into mind might be:

Escada Sunset Heat for Men (inexpensive, light, very fruity/fresh with musk, fairly safe but still decent for something a little more playful)
Creed Erolfa (marine scent par excellence.)
Creed Neroli Sauvage (probably the classiest citrus... though it lacks the sense of fun that the Malle has).

Christian Dior's Eau Sauvage
Lorenzo Villoresi's Uomo
Acqua di Parma
Carthusia Uomo
Creed's Bois du Portugal
Bond No.9's Nouveau Bowery
Loewe's Solo
Jean Pascal
Acqua Bvlgari pour homme
Montale's Soleil de Capri
Chanel pour Monsieur
Guerlain's Vetiver
Eau de Hermes

Good call on Neroli Sauvage. Strangely I don't reach for it like I should, perhaps it's the celery note amongs all the oranges. Maybe next year I'll use up my decant.
