I was hitting the heavy bag like a mad men yesterday, then I did bodyweight exercises after I was done. Now almost my entire upper body is sore today. Would it be bad for my muscles to go do bodyweight exercises during this period of soreness?

most likely, yes.

hopefully somebody who knows more about this can chime in, but i think that in general it's not good to exercise muscles if they're still sore from the previous workout.

this usually happens to me when i change up my routine/ add new exercises.

why would you want to? Always been led to believe that the rest period is as important as the activity period.

muscles need some recovery time. you won't see big gains if your body isn't allowed any time to rest.
