Cheap, fitted polos.

I've tried H&M, but they told me they don't carry them. I bought a fitted polo in Small from them before, but it shrank too much in the wash, and a Medium is too big.

I have heard a lot of good things about Polo's Custom Fit line of polos, but I'm a poor student in a big city, I need to watch my expenses already.

Do I have more low-end options other than H&M? I'm trying to avoid A&F/AE/Hollister because they aren't cheap, despite their marketing towards my age group and body type.

Thanks.

How about getting something cheap from Express then taking it to a tailor to alter the body?

I just bought a couple of polos from Martin + Osa, on sale now for around $25. Sized down from large to medium, very nice fit. Actually I see them now on their website for $19.95.

Certainly a better deal than my BB slim fit polos, whatever they cost plus $20 of tailoring to shorten the hems & sleeve length.

Does Marc Jacobs still do that "stinky rat" collection? Those polos were lean and reasonably inexpensive.

Gap, express, Banana republic or J-crew have relatively cheap polos that are decent fits. Plus you can always cheaply get an alterationist to take in the sides for a more lean fit.

If you're in NYC (which seems to be the case), just go to Uniqlo SoHo store. At around $20 a pop, I can't praise their polos enough. Sizing is a bit different across different models, so trying on is a must.

I have a couple Morrison K Ramble polo shirts by Theory. The fabric is a stretch poly/spandex so it doesn't shrink and dries fast out of the wash. If you wear an XL size up to an XXL. Really nice fitted look around the arms and shoulders.

The model retails for around $69.00 but they pop up from ebay all the time and sell for $20.00 - $30.00.

Absolutely Uniqlo -- their polos are a godsend, the perfect thing to throw on casually when you don't want to wear anything more complicated. Also, and I'm sure this varies from person to person, the dimension of their placket is perfect for me; I leave both buttons undone without causing a scene.

Two other good choices are mentioned in this thread too -- J. Crew's polos fit nicely, and Marc Jacobs Stinky Rat, though those fit far slimmer.

Thanks guys. I'm actually in Philadelphia, and I just walked by a Zara and didn't go in today!

I'll try Uniqlo when/if I visit NYC, I've heard they're similar to H&M in price and products.

I tried Express, not slim enough.

I'll keep trying.

I'd second Stinky Rat. I'm pretty sure that they at all MJ and MMJ stores. The fit is tolerable as long as you don't have any unwanted flabby zones. It's not exactly a bargain at $35, but it's good for what you get. If you wait until Ralph Lauren has its online sales, you might be able to buy kids polos in a L or XL. I'm around 5'7", 130 lb and I can fit comfortably into a large(16/18) and the polo was only $26. You can also search for free shipping coupons. However, if you're over 5'10" or have a long torso, this might not work out for you.

I'm about 5'9" and 136lbs. So, I'm pretty slim. I buy my polos at LE. Just get boys XL. They're cut slimer in the arms and the sleeves are shorter. This is nice because they don't look stupid like most polos with their shoulders that sag to the middle of the bicep. They're also not as long overall so they don't bunch up when you tuck them in.

^LOL first time I've seen a spam bot on SF, and it's in my thread.

I'll look into MJ and buying kids sizes; I am a 'kid'. 5'7" 125, I'll try heated wash/dry shrinking an H&M medium polo if I can find one, that seemed to work well with their T shirts.
