I'm still on a brown Steelcase with a yellow chair. I think these are great desks. I'd put that small one in the OP in my study. If I find a nice small one on Craigslist, it'd be worth it to have it repainted a funky color at an autoshop.

There are some remarkably preserved '60s interiors in schools and such places.

IMHO these are not old enough or interesting enough to outweigh (get it) the sheer trouble of using them. I would consider them junk. Until 2018 that is.

Regarding that steel desk with the fake drawers, could you keep a small desktop computer, monitor, and keyboard in there? Something like this?

I think it maybe a little short for the monitor. If you could fold up the monitor somehow so its not sitting upright all the time, then yes it would work quite nicely.
