Chester A. Arthur

How many times does Chester A. Arthur get mentioned on a style forum? Last night I was doing my taxes, watching some biography show on U.S. presidents. What caught my attention is that Chester Arthur was somewhat known as a dandy and the program mentioned and showed a bill from a shopping trip he took to Brooks Brothers sometime in the early 1880's, while he was president. He spent about $750. Adjusted for inflation (depending on method used) equates to just over $13,000. My question is, who made Peal shoes in 1881?

Peal of course.

Well, I'm sure it was Bespoke. Lucky President Arthur, he did not have to contend with lousy French tailors and their shoddy "˜boxy' rear handiwork. Jon.

I thought this was going to be a continuation of the Trad/Bush Sr. thread...

"...yes, Mr. President, we do carry a size 60 portly.... " Are you thinking of Taft?
