I hear 69-ing is hard when hanging of a rope, can you confirm? Have you ever droped your six pack in that situation and did you have replacement beer?

oh nooo I never 69 on a mountainside. froggy style only. i'm not stupid.

But in all honesty it was tougher to do 300 crunches during the Boston Marathon. People kept stepping on my face

If it makes someone happy to have 22 in. arms, more power to them. I can't speak for anyone but myself. I don't count calories or desire to bench 500lbs. But, I want to be healthy and eat well. At the same time, being fit and in shape definitetly makes me feel good about myself. Trying to put up that extra 10 pounds on my squat or that extra pull up or holding that pose an extra longer in yoga class is important because it feels llike I am pushing my body to new limits and/or reaching a goal. I like having milestones or goals, as it does give me a sense of achievement. That's just me personally. Given that I work a lot and try to spend time with family, working out is my departure from the stress of work.

I have a co-worker that only eats raw food. I think it's somewhat weird, but he genuinely likes it. For him, he doesn't feel obligated to have such a diet. It's a personal choice that he has decided to do..or as he calls it - a lifestyle. I don't really question what he eats. As long as he enjoys it, why do I care?

I'm married and don't need to look good for anyone but my wife. Well, that's what I tell my wife

I've thought this too, but when I thought about it in terms of 'body modification', it doesn't seem so bad then. People have always been fascinated with modifying their bodies for whatever reason, and bodybuilding seems to make more sense to me than covering every inch of my body in ink, or puncturing my face to put bars through, etc.

I'm into BB because I'm rather underweight and am trying to work my way up to the "normal" range, but yeah, I laugh just as much as the next guy at the no-neck muscled freaks who most likely can't even get a hardon, and will be dead by 60 by the stress they placed on their bodies with dangerous supplements.

Anyway, the 'why' isn't a hard question to answer. Why work out? Why drive a nice car? Why be obsessed with making lots of money? Answer: pussy.

That said, I have to say, a lot of the comments on here really make me wonder what some of you are thinking. I know the "ideal" body type for a man has changed a great deal over the last 30-40 years. Society seems much more into muscles now rather than being tall and slender.

So, I know a lot of threads on here are about how to get a six pack, about what seems to me to be crazy nutrition advice, about how to make your chest and biceps as big as possible. And I just wanted to take a step back and ask the 50,000 foot question: why?

I like to be fit. I like to be strong enough to lift heavy stuff around the house. But, what is the appeal to you guys to get your muscles as big as can be? To gain weight (you saw lots of posts here about how to bodybuild/gain weight/mass)? It just seems like such a vain obsession to me. I'm not saying you should let yourself go and gain 300 pounds, but counting each gram of protein and carbs that you take into your body seems completely whacko to me. Maybe you can look in the mirror and see a nicely shaped body, which clearly is appealing to lots of you, but don't you miss actually being able to eat out at nice restaurants? Being able to indulge? I can't imagine going through life having to kick myself every time some ice cream and burgers pass by.

I'm being intentionally provocative, but I really want to know - what drives you guys to be so concerned about the way your body looks, and, particularly, reshaping it and/or making it bigger than it naturally is? Don't you feel like you're missing out on some of life's greater pleasures in this pursuit of .... I don't know what?

hahaha you ask this question on a Style Forum, where we all talk about fashion/clothing. Isn't that vain? So if we want our outter appearance to be top notch, why not get down to the nitty gritty, for the ladies, we want to be top notch.

plus being healthy, and seeing results, boosts your motivation to better yourself, and makes you feel healthier and happier. IMO life is about being happy. So in the long run, to each their own, and do what makes you smile

I work out so I can dominate IM sports at this point. I worked out in college because I was a DI athlete, and it was mandatory. It's a hobby now that's continued. Why drive a Ferrari? They aren't particularly fast or agile: I've seen faster Dodge Omnis and much tighter RX7s.
