do you smoke weed? - Page 8

What I fucking hate is weed culture. And people who call you to say "im so fucking high." Weed can be pretty great and I like how it is shown in entourage, you do your thing, use weed once in a while, have fun, and don't become a faggy skater whos life revolves around weed.

On occasion I will smoke, but with friends.

It's like alcohol, meaning that you should know your limits and get a ride from a sober person if the need arises.

The current prohibition is bullshit, by the way

Nothing wrong at all with pot, so long as it's not a daily thing. Since it is NOT physically addicting (no matter what anyone tells you), it's only going to be a daily thing if you've got nothing else going on in your life. Then you might start living that Cheech & Chong lifestyle, which I don't recommend (maybe for a two week vacation, at most). But in moderation, weed is pretty darn great. Extremely relaxing, and quite the aphrodisiac for both me and my current girlfriend. And no one is ever mean when they're high, too. Kinda wish the country was into mary jane instead of alcohol... there'd probably be a lot less bar fights and wife beatings. Fewer DUIs too- for some reason, you just don't feel like going anywhere when you're high. Have also tried salvia a couple of times... it caused interesting, but pretty mild hallucinations (salvia is overhyped and overrated- ppl really exaggerate), and the effects wore off quite quickly. Harder stuff than those two I certainly don't recommend. Back in college a female friend actually persuaded me to try something that rhymes with "beth" once... incredibly dangerous stuff. Heart rate went to 140 and stayed there for 8 hours, and I had an almost irresistible urge to drive 30 miles to the nearest small mountain range, and climb it... at midnight, with no gear. Also made me ridiculously horny (which I think was kinda her plan), but for some reason I focused instead on this very physically unattractive girl I worked with at a restaurant instead of current company. Almost called her up. That would've been bad in so many ways. Yeah... definitely stay away from that sh**. -

Not for years. I'm 58 and the passing years has seen all of us who used to partake generally moving away from it.

Now it is not just getting high, it is also the amount of drink we used to do that has dropped off.

No, being relaxed from the high does nothing for me.

Honest question: Is no-one who smokes bothered by participating in a trade that damages a lot of people's lives? Weed is weed, ok, but it seems that a lot of the people who are running marijuana across the border are also involved in coke/heroin, etc. I'm really interested in honest answers to this -- a question that has NOTHING to do with whether or not marijuana should be legal or no. The fact that it isn't embroils it with drugs and a drug trade that is not as benign. ~ H

I'm a University student. So yeah, I do smoke weed occasionally. About 2-3 times a month.

The meat industry isn't very benign either, nor are sweatshop goods. I would wager that where we get oil isn't exactly the cleanest of operations too. + a billion other anecdotal examples.

If we were to moralize every single thing about where our goods come from and stop buying them as a consequence, it would make for a very spartan existence.

Really, I was looking for answers with a little thought behind them. Meat isn't benign --to chickens, but it hardly results in the level of violence associated with drug trafficking. Kids don't get involved (that often) with the illegal pork trade. Or unpasteurized cheese. Sweatshops? A better example, at least -- some of the Taiwanese facilities where they make RAM are pretty oppressive, but again, I doubt if there is the level of violence associated with drug trafficking. Correct me if I'm wrong. Oil? Very dirty, environmentally, I admit. And certainly there's enough money in it for people to get killed over, many would say the Iraqi wars were just about the oil...but.... Most of the above allow people to make choices and pit how much they want to spend against the harm, if you will, of their choices. I'm looking for commentary that stands up to a little bit of reason, not incredibly sweeping generalizations that bend analogy beyond its limits. Unless you have some concreteness to your comments. ~H
