Just got a call from someone looking for a custom shirt maker in Chicago. Any help from Chicagoans? I think they were looking for someone that would come to them and measure correctly. Does that exist?

Despos

We're working on an Attolini/Borrelli/Barba style influenced custom dress shirt right now. Chris is reviewing one of my favorite styling and best fitting shirts. We're in the early stages but I'm eagerly looking forward to the final product.

You should feel fortunate to have dodged a bullet.

When people I dislike ask me for a Chicago shirtmaker recommendation I refer them to either Riddle-McIntyre (312-782-33170) or Paul Chang ((312-332-0423).

^ I've heard alot of horrible things about Chang also. I wouldn't call him even MTM let alone custom from the stories I've heard.

I believe so.

As far as custom goes in Chicago, I'm only aware of Despos doing prototype designed mock ups with 2 more fittings and refinements post mock up. Also, we are working on achieveing a very high armhole for not only style and design but also for ease of getting in and out of a jacket. Despos has many fabric books and goes thru each with you while keeping in mind your profession, climate of wear, current inventory, diversification, personal style and various other discerning fit issues.

BTW, Soph, I miss your WAYWN posts. Especially the casual ones always were one of my constant favourites.
Can we hope for a Return of the Soph soon?

Mr. Despos is my favorite person in the City , but it is hard for me to get there with a full schedule of 95+hrs week.

What's the word on that Balani guy on Lasalle? A friend of mine uses him, but I've never bought anything from him.

Chris Despos is everything you could possibly dream for in a tailor. He is that awesome.

He is also one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Mathew Mathew who is a styleforum and AAAC member has started as a custom shirtmaker in the Chicago Suburbs. He spent a year in Italy as I recall.

Don't have his number though.
