It's not like jcrew has a ton of MUST HAVE items at the beginning of each season

Have you ever seen a leather jacket on sale at jcrew?

No. is it one of those "online exclusives?" Then again, i haven't actually looked for the leather jacket on sale so i don't know. I was speaking generally

But you do know that Thomas Mason makes the cotton found in bespoke Brioni though right? Their leather shoes are the same leather found in Prada and Gucci. And the fact that their cashmere comes from Loro Piano. Overall I think J.Crew is a very good quality product, however I usually wait to find some of their stuff on sale.

I did not know that, and I agree that J.crew does use many quality sources for their material, though my point is merely that a lot of the people that shop at J.crew are not prepared to shell out three times as much money for their special edition collectors items/collaborations, regardless of the quality. This is more of a branding/labeling problem than anyhing else. I browse through their site a lot, and I have noticed that oftentimes these higher-end items end up in the sale section.

wait for this whole deal about discount codes AND the student code

can you combine them in-store? so I will just tell the clerk the discount code, as well as flash my student id? how do they combine? is it 20+15, or .80x.85?

Also, I need to buy $175 at retail - how is the retail price calculated, before any discounts or what?

in my experience and lately i've been shopping up a storm at j. crew, i'll grab a sale item which for example is $39.99 and then it's an additional 20% off and then when you check out you tell them you are a student and flash your ID for another 15% off, so when you are done that $39.99 shirt is now $26.99 after all the discounts are added up. Oh and student/teacher discounts are in-store only as far as I know and I'm neither a student or a teacher.

With this special they have going on right now, I don't know how that would work, I'm assuming you will get whatever is the better value as far as discounts go. It can't hurt to ask when you go to the store...

If you call up on the phone to order and provide an .edu email you can get the student discount.

^^^ really? that is good to know!

At my local J.Crew I heard student discounts can't be stacked /w sale items anymore...

Also one time I asked for the student discount, and they gave me the employee discount... I kept quiet and was excited, and ended up getting the item much cheaper.

yeah that has happened to me several times, i wound up getting like two shirts for free once. all the stores in chicago will stack sale codes and they always fuck something up too...

I just went today and they declined to stack discounts So instead of buying tons of stuff, I just got one vintage ocbd in a nice check pattern- but it was already on "final" sale, so I got it for $28 (total steal) I got my first look at their "selvage denim" - actually, I was pleasantly surprised (i'm talking about the one-wash, not the distressed abortions). It's nice and thick, comparing almost favorably to RRL. But not the best value at that price ($100)

strange, i have yet to have that problem...

I never knew you could get a student discount. Last time I went to j. Crew they didn't seem to have a sale section, their regular times doesn't look like its worth retail.

Sadly, most people who work at J Crew are really shitty at their jobs for some reason. I hate shopping in store becuase, despite having been to like 6-7 different stores in 4 different states, I spend half my time wandering around trying to find someone who works there to open up a dressing room. They also have refused to stack discounts for me several times =(

The people at the J.Crew near me are helpful and polite. Much better than most mall shops.
