The way I got to doing handstand pushups is just holding myself in an upright position against a wall, then progressing to a static hold in a pushup position (90 degree arm angle) and holding until I collapsed. I still don't have the balance to do more than one without the aid of a wall. But I recommend training this for way a bit because I think people may underestimate the amount of strain on the shoulders when you keep this position for an extended period.
I really can't balance myself in that position! My plan was to use a ladder and gradually get more vertical. I dunno!

A question, do you think you'd risk a stroke by doing handstand pushups regularly?

Why do you need a ladder? just put your feet on the wall.

Better grip with a ladder.

Grip... the ladder? With your feet? The ladder can fall down

I doubt strongly that the rush of blood to the head will be any issue for a stroke, but I'm no authority.

I am also confused by the use of a ladder? And it doesn't seem safe. Balancing against a wall is easier than it seems, just try it and you'll develop the balance really quick.

^^^

I suppose it would be ok. But again, you'd be surprised how quickly you can get that balance down if you just said screw it and kicked your feet up the wall.

When I was working on the hand stand push up I had no balance for the exercise but just went outside to a field and kicked my self up into that position for about 30 mins and got the balance down pretty good. You just gotta do it, if you fall you fall.

Sorry for the lack of posting. Didn't realize how long this one ended up getting. I am ordering the door gym pull-up bar for working out when I don't feel like going to the gym. I am also cutting down my running and bought some protein powder.

I went up to the gym the other day at 7 am and it wasn't crowded. Probably won't be a time I can always make but it definitely gives me an option for avoiding the crowds.

Thanks for all the tips people.
