Your Favorite Allen Edmonds? - Page 10

I agree with all the love for the Walnut Strands. I hope they're part of the AE sale starting on the 11th, otherwise I'll get them on the FS thread.

I got a pair of these through distinctive and they are great but one big problem. AE acted cheap and unlike all my other double monks they just used a piece of leather without an elastic attached toggle. Went to put them on yesterday and the suede snapped. Fortunately my cobbler can repair by adding elastic. But this is where AEs fall down with one of their best shoes.

This happened to me as well. Really unfortunate, because the shoes look great. I need a decent cobbler who is brave enough to do the repair.

Fairfax
:

To improve on them, I took my Fairfaxes to a the Beehive and had them trim the soles so they don't stick out horizontally so far from the upper when looking down at them. They look dramatically more sleek, and IMHO, better...

It is not often you see how nice the Mora is in leather after wear and tear aka patina. AE were ahead of themselves with that model and should not have dropped it. Though not the same quality - the last on the Mora is not much different from my RL C&J double monks.

Love the pic of the Walnut Strands - the closeup is trigger-pulling worthy. We should run a brief poll to see how much fence-sitters ended up buying a pair because of pics like this (and not to ones AE has on their site).

I still think I'd go for the walnut McAllister, though. I like the idea of brown brogues for some reason.

My personal favourites from my collection:

- Fairfax in chestnut
- Hampstead in chili
- Warton in chili
