Okay, so take a couple of my examples: 1) You're at a very noisy bar with a couple friends. The only reason you can tell your phone's going off, over the sound of the (live) music, is because your cell's on vibrate. It's another friend, texting to ask where to meet you. What is wrong with texting him the name of the bar? "We didn't evolve to text" is not an acceptable answer and will garner you no credit.
2) You're watching the NBA playoffs. Because you and your father are not women, you don't feel the need to watch the entire thing with the phone to your ear the whole time, and what would you talk about for three hours anyway? Plus, you're trying to watch the game, yes? But you're both rooting for the Lakers and you each know the other is watching. You live about 3,000 miles away from each other. Kobe hits a fantastic turnaround fadeaway from twenty feet which he probably shouldn't have taken in the first place, but damn that was pretty. What is wrong with texting your father, "I can't believe he hit that!"?
