Shaping up for a Brazilian sweep...

The Spider is just stupid. Unreal that he was able to just hang his head out there and dare Okami to punch him . . . and when he did knock him ass over tea-kettle with a fucking JAB thrown from the waist.

What a night of fights.

Nog victory was enormous

I don't even understand the physics of what Silva does, makes no fucking sense.

Glad for Shogun's KO hopefully it gives him more confidence but I gotta say dude still did not look great...looked kinda slow and no sign of expert muay-thai. frown.gif

Awesome night of fights. I, like many other people, was premature in writing Big Nog's MMA obituary. Shogun looked pretty good, but Forrest was really slow and out of it. Silva was classic Silva. When he came out in the second round all intense, you know it was just a matter of time before Okami was staring at the ceiling. Not saying it would have made a difference, but Okami looked really timid. What was his gameplan?

+1 on what everyone said. great fights. nice to see schaub get ko'd. long time coming.

Anyone, thoughts on Silva's next victim? The gaps seems too big at 185. Personally would like to see he and Jones, though too early in Jones career to do a catch weight therefore silva would have to step back up to 205.

^ He would get killed by Jones. Just like GSP would get killed by Silva. The 4 year plan is to have Jones move to HW at some point. Lets start looking for some Strikeforce MWs. He probably won't fight Souza, but there may be somone in there he could go after. Perhaps the winner of the Bisping - Miller fight.

would love to see mousasi drop to middle weight and do it...he won't do it though. ffffuuuu.gif

Did you see his last fight against jardine?? I know he Jardine was in on short notice, but I think he took the fight on 7 days notice. Mousasi still couldn't stop him. I really think Bisping should get a shot. He has three losses to Wandy Evans (which is a split decision) and Henderson. Either he or Sonnen.

Edit: anyway let's forget all this junk, the Strikeforce GP is two weeks away, Man to see Silva lose would be great. Also to see Barnett lose would be great.

They also say that Overeem may be headed to the UFC soon, boy that would be a tragic career move, he would be killed by anyone in the top 5 - 7. Overeem over Mitrione?? Maybe not..

Silva should look to 205 for his next fight. He is a great fighter but part of his greatness has been his ability to fight at 185 where he has a huge size advantage. very similar to Jones at 205 although Jones obviously has not had the same success. I have a feeling more guys will be dropping to 185 soon. I would love to see Shogun at 185, Evans at 185, maybe even Davies at 185 down the road although I'm not sure if he has the right frame for it.

I could see Evans beating AS at 185 by pulling a Sonnen w/o the lack of sub defense. I'd never bet on it but it could happen. Shogun could also win, he would be about his same size and has good power and head movement. Silva can be knocked out and has been clipped. I don't think Shogun would fall for his mind games either.

Don't forget that Silva has murdered 2 guys at LHW, James Irvin, who is no slouch on his feet, and Forrest, who apparently walks around at 245+. He has also murdered plenty of larger middleweights - Nate Marquardt, Rich Franklin in his prime (and Rich fought much of his career at 205), Dan Henderson (who is a small LHW, but a large middleweight.) And don't forget that Okami is considerably bigger, and by all accounts, a beast. Vitor Belfort is no midget either.

And his style is not a strength style. Very little, if any, of his core repertoire is strength based. He is not a good wrestler, he never roughs up guys against he fence, and I can't remember if he has ever thrown anyone down for some GnP. Any GnP he does is more like an epilogue of pain after he has coldcocked someone. The argument re. strength and size advantage is much more persuasive re. Jones, though to attribute all of that to strength and size would be doing him a disservice. Clearly, the man has serious moves.

Davies can't fight at 185. Even 205 is sort of a stretch for him, and I have a feeling that Anderson Silva would kill him. Even in his practice, his standup looks to have lots of holes, (watch how he drops his hands after a 1-2, telegraphing the upper cut and leaving himself open for a straight right) and he doesn't bullrush, which was what made Sonnen successful (well, until he got submitted.) Evans would get KO'd by Silva. He has good takedowns, but he is an undersized LHW with a soft chin. Sonnen is pretty durable, and even he admitted to getting punched silly in his bullrushes. Those shots would have stopped Evans cold. A healthy Shogun would be an interesting matchup, but I feel that at this point, he is too slow to catch Silva, and his charging style could easily get him KO'd. This is probably the most interesting of the suggested matchups, but I think that at this point in their respective careers, smart money would be on Silva.

Jones would be a huge challenge for Anderson Silva. He is the best wrestler at 205, and especially after joining Greg Jackson's camp, he has ragdolled his competition. And unlike Sonnen, who can get a guy to the mat, but apparently, punches like a little girl (i.e. never finishes anyone,) Jones has lethal ground-and-pound.

Rule out Shogun vs Silva.
Jones is to new to give him the fight. He needs to have a few more fights under his belt. It would be a horrible thing to have Jones fight Silva and loose. We have no idea of what could happen to Jones.
Jones is a good fighter and INCREDIBLY gifted athlete but if he looses to early all his progress could unravel. We have seen something like this happen time and time again.

+1000. I think Evans needs to drop and if he did he would really give Silva problems.

re Slopho: that Jardine fight was unbelievable, it is so frustrating when people cite that as Mousasi being overrrted. Dude completely dominated Jardine, Jardine had absolutely nothing for him. Yes, he probably could've looked harder for the finish but whatever. It was some epically shitty judging. I think Mousasi could do really big things as a middleweight, fuck, I think he could be competitive with most of the UFC lhw top 10.

As for Silva vs Shogun...it is interesting hypothetically but if last night was any indication, Shogun no longer possesses his former speed/accuracy/form. It's possible that this was an active decision for Forrest (and Jones, maybe even Machida 2?), to just try to blast heads off instead of fight a technical battle like Machida 1. So it's possible that Shogun might come into a fight with Silva looking to be more technical/tactical. It would be tough though, he is not as athletic as the pride days when he'd just toss out tornado kicks and fire off endless knees and shit. And mistakes against Silva are costly, you get about two or three and then it's done. The other thing is, so far as I know Shogun has never fought at 185, I think he'd definitely need a tune up fight first to give him the confidence and get him situated making the cut and everything that come with that. Who knows. Probably won't happen, he's only 29 but you can see him aging...

Whoever said Rashad should go down to middle weight...no sir, I think Rashad actually has the best chance against Jones, I would love to see Rashad become champion. He's been training with Tyrone Spong, his stand up is improving, his overall game his improving, his athleticism is probably the best in the UFC (after GSP?), and he's a smart dude who fights intelligently. We'll see what happens between Bones and Page but I just can't see Page doing it, he's a little too simplistic to deal with Jones' crazy bag of tricks + serious size advantage. Rashad (and a number of other people) have been on record saying if Page was more serious and open minded he could be the champ....

Silva vs Jones would be fun, who knows if Silva could work his same magic though. Would be awesome to see. By the time it becomes feasible though Anderson might be done.
