if Floyd Mayweather wasn't such a wanker we'd have one of the best rivalries in all sport in a welterweight division right now.

Not so sure about that. His weakness is his ground game, and specifically, his wrestling. I can see him Laid on for the loss by the stronger wrestlers. Or, he could simply get KO'd.

A big plus one to that. He has not beat a top level gighter in MMA in quite some time. Years in fact.

Yeah, he did. His ground game is sound. His striking is supremely good.

His heart and conditioning are perhaps what might let him down. But I still think the contrarians suggesting he's a scrub can crusher with muscles have got a screw loose. This guy would dominate most of the UFC HW division.

Overeem SUCKED in pride. He cardio was dreadful. I haven't watched him much since but did notice his transformation into the hulk.

Not all that surprising but it was Dana White's big announcement today. WEC to merge with UFC.

Awe, great. There go my free events.
why? There will be 8 free fights a year at the minimum according to Dana.

Total, including Fight Night, or just on Versus?

I think that the total number of free MMA events is going to go down, but hopefully their quality will go up. And the PPVs will improve as high-profile fights in the featherweight and bantamweight weight classes bump mid-level fights in the higher weight classes. So this merger has probably got more plusses than minuses.

according to Dana, 4 fights for versus and then what ever spike is doing.

It will have the most effect on the pay-per-views, and I think it's obvious that's the hope of management based on the timing. Before Brock-Cain, the last two pay-per-views were the worst selling in a long time. They are spread so thin that they need the WEC champions and more well known fighters to fill marquee card space. The events on Versus will be nowhere near the quality of the past free WEC cards. This is still a great thing though, I think it's a popular opinion that the WEC tends to have much more exciting fights across the board. I will gladly take these guys on the PPV if I don't have to sit through mid-tier and gatekeeper fights.
