Awesome, awesome card. I was just waiting that whole time for Brock to get droopy eyed from that bowling ball beating but somehow he pulled out of that alive. He's tough as a fucking mountain, that's for sure.

This had to have been one of the best UFC cards in years. Bonner fight was awesome. Leben fight was epic. Lesnar came back from the jaws of defeat! Also:

It was a great card.
I thought Carwin had Brock for sure. One thing we can be certain about and that's that Cain won't gas.

No, Cain won't gas, but he is also much smaller than Brock, and hasn't really shown the power of Carwin either, though he showed good standup against Big Nog. I'll take Brock on that fight. That said, I'll take Carwin in a rematch. I think that he was surprised by Lesnar's submission ability (as was everyone else.) No one else has seen that before. I would see a rematch being a fair bit slower, with Carwin picking his shots a bit more and using his wrestling to keep the fight standing, or going for the takedown himself and being more methodical in his gnp.

So is Dethrone Royalty the new standard in douchewear?

Lesnar won! Damn I was hoping Akiyama would at least last the three rounds for a judge decision.

I dont think the sub was a gamechanger since by 2nd round Carwin was gassed and it was a matter of time i think before Brock would GNP into a stoppage imo. Was nice though to see Brock has developped his ground game.

anyone can comment on how much brock could potentially improve his stand up? he just doesnt seem built to ever be a good striker.

also, at his age can carwin improve his cardio much?

Awesome fight. Shane "can't fight longer than one round" Carwin was submitted in the 2nd round!

You could still see Lesnar hasn't fully recovered from his illness. He reminds me of a young Mike Tyson in his demeanor in the ring.

If they rematch, Lesnar wins in the 1st round.

re: Lesnar's ground game. He was a champion wrestler. Some of that lunging and aggressiveness that is rewarded in wrestling, got him into trouble in the past against BJJ, but against a guy who isn't great at BJJ, he'll just steamroll his opponent - until the next Russian Bear or Lesnar comes along:

good thing he got that wink in to brock to start the second round....that was the extent of his offense in the second.

Except Tyson was a brutal puncher and not scared to get hit. Lesnar is a great fighter for many reasons but his standup is garbage. He does not like getting hit. When he first got tagged by Carwin he went running around like a chicken with no head. It was almost painful to watch. If, and it's a big if, Cain can make good contact on the feet and avoid the take down right away, Lesnar could be in trouble. I think too much is being made about the size difference in that match-up.

Sorry I'd forgotten about that. I think that Mauro owes you something too.

Well, to be fair, no one likes getting hit by Carwin. I give Lesnar props for not going to sleep like everyone else before him after catching a punch flush, though he never took one on the button. If Carwin could get the "KO combo" - uppercut followed by a hook to the exposed jaw, he might have put Lesnar away. But that wasn't the case, and the rest is history.

That said, Lesnar has been paused by strikes from Randy and Frank Mir, and nearly stopped last night. He showed last night that he has a chin, but he is not invulnerable by any means, and he doesn't move his head much (action figures have limited mobility,) so I can see a very good striker with good takedown defense having a chance. In Cain's case, I think that it's a really outside chance though.
