I loved the somber music that Fedor had playing when he walked out to the ring... very ominous... foreboding.

I don't think that the weight difference would give Fedor an advantage. They're both bad as hell. I couldn't think of a better fight between two seriously scary dudes.

Weight = advantage, yes.

kudos to Chris on this call...faster than anyone predicted, but this is pretty much exactly what happened, only variance was in the sambo finishing - choke rather than armbar - but still, pretty much nailed it with this post.

Silvia? People give him too much credit. Most lackluster heavyweight I've ever watched fight.

He may be lackluster skill-wise but he has the distinct ability to outlast fucking everything, mostly because of his monstrous size.

I think Silva and Fedor are arguably the best fighters in the world right now, but Fedor would probably run him over. Silva is one hell of a striker, but anyone who comes at Fedor throwing their fists around gets put on their ass. He has a method of slipping into a dominant position, even against some of the world's top talent like CroCop, when he was at the top of his game.

Jinda, you mentioning the UFC commentators that reminded me how much I absolutely hate Goldberg and Rogan. Everything about the UFC's presentation is so pre-fab and pointlessly meat head enthusiastic. If I could make a list of all the reasons I think MMA has yet to become a respected sport, I'd put the UFC announcers near the top of that list. If they started speaking in more strategic terms instead of "WOW! Look at that EXPLOSIVE POWER!!! YAAAAAAARGHHHH" I'd be much more confident in it as a legitimate sport.

plus Goldberg used the phrase "and his precision is......precise" which was priceless you could do some cool UFC drinking games with those two. eg...Every time Machida fights, take a shot whenever Rogan says 'elusive'

yea i cant stand them. and wtf is up with bruce buffer? cant the guy get a decent suit? its not bad enough hes the less successful, uglier brother, he cant dress for shit. and goldberg is always swimming in his suits. rogan acts like a stereo typical UFC fan boy and it gets old. i liked the affliction commentating much more. those guys were with pride before i think. theyre much better to listen to.

Bas Ruten was the best.

That wasnt even a fight...It was a beating.

I think I OD's on MMA on Saturday night. At my local sports bar, I got a seat in front of a projection TV showing Affliction, which was surrounded by four flat-screen TVs showing UFC. I watched all 15 fights (8 Affliction, 7 UFC). No classics, but a lot of really good scraps. I particularly liked the Arlovski and Babalu fights. And seeing Anderson and Fedor show why they're 1-2 (or 2-1) on the P4P list.

As to the main events:

This Anderson guy has got some skills. I think he's going to do pretty well in MMA. After watching the GIF of Silva's right cross, I think Irvin had his wiring scrambled for a few seconds and didn't know where he was. He's a tough guy and I don't think he punked out.

Fedor did what Fedor does. The ending was what I expected, but I thought Tim would last at least one round. Did anyone else think Tim tapped really quickly? The choke did not look like it was locked on. Maybe Tim thought there was no point in delaying the inevitable.

Watched Dream 5 today. Oh my god, awesome. Alvarez/Kawajiri has to be the best fight this year.

Kind of dumb of Alvarez to stop attacking when the ref hadn't called the fight yet though.

Most definitely a a candidate for fight of the year. Alvarez is top three lightweight on the planet in my eyes. I'm a huge fan of Aoki, but I think Alvarez would've knocked him out, too.

And in Aoki's defense, the tournament format really hurt him. The Uno match took alot out of him, while Hansen had an easy go with the other guy.

And even though he got worked, it was nice seeing Hunt again. Overeem seems to have gotten even better.

Crazy tournament overall. You MMA fans that missed it need to get your TIVO on.

If you haven't seen the Fedor-Sylvia fight, here it is.

Yea, Alvarez backed off too early, I think he was just relieved for it to be over, as at absolutely any point, the fight could have gone either way. It looked cocky but I'm certain it wasn't poorly motivated. When the commentator said "It's like a Rocky movie," I couldn't agree more. I agree re: Aoki - he could have done much better if he wasn't already gassed from his earlier fight.
