I spent an impressive amount of time last night watching and rewatching old UFC fights - particularly Anderson Silva's dismantling of Rich Franklin (marking the decline of my interest in UFC) and the famed Steffan Bonnar - Forrest Griffin duel that put UFC on the mainstream map.

I find myself with this weird and uncomfortable feeling that he's going to be one of those guys who doesn't realize it's over, and winds up doing freakshow missed-weight-has-been fights against like Tito Ortiz, Rampage Jackson...or (god forbid) Chuck Liddell. Or "The Trilogy is ON!!!!!!" where they wheel out Chael Sonnen for a Bellator comeback. I really, really hope not.

The fight Silva really wants is a boxing match with his idol, Roy Jones, Jr. Now that would be a freakshow.

Although Silva have had some good fights, he has only recorded one win in eight years.

I would rather see him do these freakshow matches than try to compete with the top talent in the division. Father Time catches up with us all.

I'd rather him retire gracefully to a life on a beach outside Curatiba somewhere

I used to consider Spider a arrogant jerk the way he danced around and stunted on his opponents. Then I realized just how cool he is through interviews. Then Jon Jones came along and I realized just how a real jerk does it. Cant stand that dude.

This is getting a little embarrassing for Anderson now.

Bellator, PFL and One all passing on him in a matter of days, despite signing others of similar vintage.

It's kinda sad. He's gonna be fighting Don Frye bareknuckle in Japan at this rate.

Meanwhile, I have a raging boner for the post Khabib LW division at the moment. I get that it's a logjam for a silver medal, but Ferguson v Oliviera, Conor v Poirier, plus a wound licking Gaetje and an unproven Chandler both waiting in the wings mean that there are a lot of great fights right there.

And the bare knuckle boys just turned him down too. This is sad.

Tonight's UFC PPV was not the best of all-time, but was definitely the most violent. Don't watch the Hall-Weidman fight if you haven't already seen it unless you have a strong stomach. One word: Irony.

Any thoughts on tonight's big UFC PPV? Props to Conor for demanding such a quick rematch, but I think it was a mistake. Conor comes out strong in a karate stance and lands several good shots, but Dustin weathers the storm and takes over by early in the second round, just like last time. Conor sees the bell of the second round but is gassed, and Dustin finishes him in the third.

Where does Conor go if he loses? The rubber match with Diaz is the obvious choice, but I can see him retiring from the UFC to pursue a big money boxing match with Pacquiao or Mayweather.

As a boxing fan, I am tired of these types of exhibitions. I get the rationale of the fighters...$$..but I ain't paying for it.
(Though I think I did pay for PBF vs Conor.)

Haven't looked in here in a while, missed this.

I was on Poirier but that outcome makes a mess. He was clubbin' him and no reason to think any rounds onward would have been any different. However, now Conor is going to scream 'illegitimate' to anyone that will listen (and to many that won't), and at best, this will always be a win with an asterisk for Poirier.

The path back gets weird.

I am a big Charlie Olives fan, but I think Dustin makes short work of him. Then what? Conor is a year out at best, and presumably screaming his lungs out for a do-over (which he totally does not deserve, and it would then also be for a title shot if my other presumption holds). No way. Buuuuuuut....there's money there....and They Have Shareholders Now.

Aside from that, and within the UFC, agree, Diaz 3 is the obvious fight to make. Up in a weight a bit for Masvidal (money there too, but Jorge eats him for breakfast), there are prob some other superfights out there too-Ferguson could be fun.

Buuuuut, with the damage to that leg, boxing exhibitions offer more money and less risk, so I'm guessing a loss to Pacquiao is next for Conor followed by a win over Jake Paul.

I'm watching now (featured prelim was fun) but on the whole I am finding it hard to give a **** about this card.

I guess Aldo and Luque are always fun to watch.

This unnecessary interim thing puts me off the main event completely. Always like watching Nunes so sorry to see that one drop.

Good night of fights, that Lewis vs Bam Bam was awesome. Whittaker was just too slow in building his momentum. Cant blame the guy though from how the first fight went.
