Loakes Chelsea Boots - Opinions?

I've shopped around where I live and Loakes seem to be the best available boot for what I can afford (They are actually pushing it at the price, but I can make it)

What do you guys think of them?

My only criticism is that the sole maybe looks a little chunky?

I saw a sleeker pair elsewhere but they were 2.5 times the price...

Anyway are the Loakes an acceptable starter for the Chelsea boot novice?

Im not an expert but i was considering Loake as well. Nothing wrong with them in my opinion. GOod workhorse boot in my humble opinion.
What other pair did you see?

I heard complaints about the leather quality, but that's to be expected with Loakes pricing.

I probably won't want them for THAT long as I will upgrade in time. More worried about their appearance ...

Sorry victor C, I can't remember who the other pair I saw were made by. I saw the price and quickly put them back on the shelf!

To follow up - I think the problem is that they're corrected grain, and probably not the best corrected grain. I'll rather look around for a full grain version at that price - full grain tends to age better since it polishes and repolishes better. Corrected grain tends to look better at the beginning and worse at the end since those scuffs on bad corrected grain don't really polish out, and the creases become really noticeable.

They are not a bad starter boot. I had the same boot in the waxy brown finish. I was more than happy with them. I just did not wear them too much.
