Workers of the world unite I say.
Uhm, try telling that to the UAW and the various textile and steel unions. Talking about stinky foreigners stealing American jobs. About Communism, even if the original ideas aren't flawed, there is an almost nil possibility you could have them implemented. All major forms of Communism (Marxism, Leninism, Stalinism, and Maoism) advocate a one-party, if not a one-man government to direct the society from capitalism to communism. Lack of competition is always dangerous, but the absence of political competition is gravely fatal. Hence you see the Animal Farm scenario in ALL communist regimes.

To dismiss communism on the basis of what has happened in North Korea, or in Cuba, or in the Soviet Union is pure sophistry. Â Study Marx and learn that "communism" in the sense in which the term was meant to be used has never existed.
So is the pure free market, where all firms earn ZERO economic profit. Since we cannot test both hypothesis in their purest forms, what we can test, and ultimately judge, is the application of the ideas (ie. how policies are shaped and implemented based on such) and to what extent they better the welfare of the masses. Without saying, so far zero score to the communist front.

OOPS- I'm hijacking the thread, too, and attracting flames from libertarians and republicans- sort of trolling I guess. Perhaps I should ban myself  )
Steve, my political / economic thought is probably what you could call a hardcore conservative, but by and large no way I could adhere to the Republican Party, at least under the current leadership. Of course there are some good people within the GOP (McCain seems to be one), but the current administration is a bunch of pork-barrel spenders. Also, being pro-market is NOT the same as being pro-business. And I'm still not ranting about foreign policies yet.

don't even get me started on how the u.s. assasinated the democratically elected communist president of chile, salvador allende.
I'm with you on this one. Allende would probably brought Chile into financial ruin but it'd be up to the Chilean people to decide. My CAD $0.0266
