Do you have a cat? - Page 37

That's a Persian, or similar breed. Certainly somebody's pet at some point. That long hair is not very practical for living in the wild. You should do exactly what otc said and try to locate the owner. If it doesn't have a chip, put up some signs in the neighborhood. If that fails, consider keeping it, or giving it to the shelter.

Thanks. If someone lost it, I'd expect to see some signs for a missing cat which leads me to believe that nobody is looking for it. Unless of course the owner lives several miles from my neighborhood but I don't know how how likely it is that the cat strayed so far from its home. Will try to see if there is a collar or chip. I'm afraid of calling a shelter because I don't want to be responsible for it being put down - is that route taken if they don't find a home for the cat?

I'm afraid most shelters do euthanize, though a friendly, pretty cat like that would have a good chance of finding a home. But first try to find a no-kill shelter.

I believe vets can also check for microchip.

I have a cat, since I moved in with my partner and she has a cat that she took in from the street. I would never have considered myself to be a 'cat person', but this little fellow has taught me a lot about cats in general, and he is very pretty to boot. He loves boxes more than anything, and will hop into one immediately, including the box for my newest Grensons:

When we purchased this down sofa, he immediately took to the pillows. He is now on a diet after clocking in at 22lbs during his most recent visit to the vet. He's been on Urinary SO food (to prevent any blockages) for a long time, and it's calorie rich. Royal Canin finally released a moderate calorie version. Hoping to get him down to 18lbs or so.

The poster, he did answer the question what was posed in the title of the thread.

Since I'm here, I will answer too: I do not currently have a cat, but I used to have a kitty that I loved very much.
