Viper ACR Turns a 7:22 at the Ring

I've never watched a full fast lap of the Ring before, very interesting. I know there's some serious torque involved here, but why was his stick vibrating so much? And was that pulsing of the engine the limiter (I've never driven a car with an electronic limiter, just the eeriness of valve float). Looked like he blew two shifts, too?

That car is a true track beast.....consequently, I read the other day that due to financial troubles, Chrysler is considering selling off the Viper brand.

Here's a Motor Trend article on the beast: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...acr/index.html

I've always loved the Viper since the very first model. The thing just looks like a giant penis going down the road. Brilliant! And the sound, man, what glorious beasty sound that can wake up the whole neighborhood.

High HP RWD cars tend to do that because the shifter is directly connected to the transmission and yeah that was the rev limiter he kept bouncing off of.

too bad they don't have a speedometer in the bottom right hand corner of the screen like they do in the video games. curious how fast he was going at some points.

It did sound like he blew two shifts: one near the beginning, and another at the end. That doesn't look like the most friendly gearbox.

Here's a Corvette ZR1 turning 7:26.4 at the ring:

It's also got telemetry displayed so you can see how fast it's going.

Here are the Corvette and Viper videos cut together:

Here's a race car going around the Ring. The marked difference between a race car and a street car is remarkable. He's running the F1 track in addition to the North Loop, so the times aren't comparable, though it's safe to say his North Loop time will be under 7 minutes:

The racecar is running an H-pattern gearbox, and the speed of his shifts are but he's not using the clutch, and there's a force sensor in the knob that tells the engine computer to briefly cut the engine during a shift.

In less than 3 weeks, I'm going to be at the Ring getting a ride on the BMW Ring Taxi!

Kudos to Striezel. He mastered the big Audis in theTransAm, IMSA-GTO and the DTM Series.

EVO magazine has a funny review about the Viper. They rate it 5 stars but it loses points for the inevitable "Small Penis Jokes" which will hound you as an owner.

I'm just hoping it's not a small time tuner, or company who doesn't have the money to carry the brand.
