i'll agree with you on that, but i've also had pretty good success at least for work clothes sizing down on j. crew shirts and then having the shirt darted...

I have no experience with tailors, but I have a couple J. Crew shirts in the Small Tailored Fit... debating whether or not to sell them because in order to get a similar fit, the sides would need to be taken in and/or have darted, sleeves would need to be slimmed down, hem shortened (if I were to wear it untucked), and would possibly need higher arm holes. I simply don't know if all that is possible. The shirts fit similarly in the shoulders and right at the chest... and that's about it. EDIT: Also would need the sleeves shortened ever so slightly... this is Small vs. Small

the sleeve length, chest, shoulders and over-all length are perfect for me in a j. crew medium, it's just the little to boxy, so i have my tailor dart the back to slim the shirt down, similar to what BoO does...

I bought a bunch of Unis shirts last year and I LOVE them. Their store in NYC is def going to be on top of places to go next time I'm back in NYC

this is the best thing to do, find a good local tailor and no shirt is "off limits" due to fit issues

btw, the Ben Sherman "soho" fit shirt is awesome. It's a bit more structured than BoO but their med fits me better than a Med BoO. I think the body is a tad slimmer, the neck isnt as big (BoO have large necks imo) and buttons perfectly. and I like the smaller collars and 3rd neck button on the Shermans. Length is meant to be tucked in. I think I've picked up 4 or 5 of these in August alone. This is the first time they've made a bunch of shirts in the SoHo fit (before they'd only have 1/season) so I want to get them while they're making em the way I would make em for myself.

Size XS from J. Crew fits me well in the chest, shoulders and waist, but they're far too small at the neck

I'll go against the grain and say that BoO is perfect for tucking for me, and I stand about 5'9". The only thing I dislike is the very large neck, but other than that it is perfect. I don't even mind the shirt tails because, as I've noticed, it tends to elongate and slim my upper body.

I love BoO shirts, but I always leave them (and every other shirt I wear), untucked. I wear a size L and I'm 6'1ish 180. The best 'cheap' comparision I've found is Rugby shirts a size down. They're longer, and the taper isn't as well done, and the collar is smaller, but they're close.
