Japanese Beer - Page 2

I think all Japanese beer (except for dark beer, of course) tastes pretty similar. As long as it's not happoushu it doesn't matter all that much.

I tried Hite one time at a Korean restaurant and I thought it was so-so, how are other Korean beers in comparison?

+1. kirin light is good too, as well as the asahi that is similar to guiness.

I like all of the big three pretty well. I'd say my favorite is Kirin.

I wish I could say otherwise but Hite and OB are both pretty bad. They go fine with a spicy meal though, if ice cold. Cass is slightly better Korean beer, but not as common as Hite and OB. There is a very common beer in Korea which is practically unseen in the US, called Cafri, which is probably better than all of the aforementioned.

I enjoy the flavor and after taste of Asahi dry

Hitachino Nest beers are pretty good. My local beer snob bar just got 4 of them in and i tried the espresso stout and it was solid. I think they're from the Kiuchi brewery in Japan if i recall.

I like Asahi Super Dry, too, but I have trouble drinking it much when I'm in Japan because ALL of my good friends swear by Kirin Ichiban. I like the Kirin, too, but if I have my choice, I usually go with the Asahi.

At least in West Japan, we almost NEVER drink Sapporo... Sometimes, Yebisu when we all get our bonus checks, but for everyday, usually it's Kirin.

How can you guys drink Kirin? It just tastes of water. If you're in Japan an that's the only beer you'll get in 0,7L I understand why you'll buy it (I did too), but it's not very good at all. I'd never buy it here at least. At least Sapporo and Ashai tastes a bit like beer.

My wife says the same thing - Yebisu when professors or senpai were buying. I don't really care for Asian beers. We have a ton of microbreweries here, perhaps second per capita to Portland.

yeah, I don't understand why you guys in North America would go to all that trouble when you have a slew of great brands out there.
