I'm not a big fan at all, really. If only for the marketing of their cans, I'd choose Sapporo.

While not a Japanese beer, per say, Rogue's Morimoto Soba Ale is a solid brew.

As far as the "major breweries" go... Yebisu is pretty much considered the "best" I think. Thats sort of like trying to decide which beer is better, Bud, Coors, or Miller, though just so you know. I do have a soft spot for Asahi Super-Dry. Cause its cheap. My uncles seem to like Ginga Kogen and Yona Yona? ( I think thats what its called)

Asahi Kuronama (black) kicks ass.

other than that, they are all average, quite decent with japanese food.

I prefer Asahi although there also exists a harder-to-find Sapporo Reserve which is very, very nice. I used to drink it regularly after work in NYC. Ahh those were the days...

Recently I drink Suntory Premium Malts but would never say no to a Sapporo Black Label or an Yebisu.

Most of them taste kind of the same to me, which is not to say that I don't like them. Usually I just order whatever is on tap; usually it's very fresh and pure tasting, and I can down a surprising number of them without getting a hangover.

Love hitachino White ale. local restaurant stopped stocking it though. Oh well, it was 10 bucks a bottle there! Me and Asahi Super Dry have a long, wonderful history together though.

I'm not much of a beer snob, but I really enjoy Kirin, and prefer Sapporo to the mainstream American or Korean domestics.

A favorite meal of mine.
