Food Network: Big Daddy's House

Mark from Plano's thread about the Next Food Network Star in which his friend was a finalist generated a lot of attention...
I was wondering who would be watching the winner, Aaron McCargo Jr.'s show today. His first episode airs in about half an hour, 1:30 eastern.

I liked Aaron and love the food network in general, so I'm in.
His menu for today according to the website is
Oven-Roasted Prime Rib with Horseradish Sauce
One and Done Cocktail
Broccoli-Cheese Casserole
Garlic-Cheese Mashed Potatoes

Just thought I'd see who else was interested.

I think ... nobody. Roommates and I watched TNFS also and it was so ho-hum. I think all of the finalists aer weird and quirky. I almost would have preferred the Star Trek officer / Katie Holmes lookalike to win. At least it would have been entertaining. My problem with Aaron is actually one with food networks in general - all the blacks they cast are so odd. And by that I mean it's always some huge personality like "big daddy" or extremely sexual like the Neely's. Why can't they cast "normal" black food personalities? And please don't read into that and say "What do you mean sygyzy? The Neely's are normal!"

The kitsch of that menu makes me surprised there's no salmon prepared in with some random sauce splashed on as well to make it par for the Food Network course. Hey, at least Sandra Lee has huge boobs when she makes tasteless shit like that. This Aaron guy has the black vote -- that's about it.

How was the show? I didn't get to see it. I'm not a big Food Network guy anyway. I wouldn't mind seeing one of Aaron's shows. Seems like a nice enough guy and a pretty good cook. Could be fun, but probably wouldn't be a weekly stop-down for me.

I had dinner at the "Star Trek Officer/Katie Holmes lookalike's" restaurant on Saturday night. It was pretty awesome although neither Gilbert nor Lisa were in town that night. The place has just gone crazy since the show. It's impossible to get in now without a reservation and as it was they were about 45min late in seating us for our reservation; which was fine, we weren't in a hurry and just had a glass of wine and talked until our table was ready.

The show was actually only mehh. The food was pretty good and you can tell he knows what he's talkin about, but somethin was just missing. Maybe it was just first-taping nerves or something. Who knows. I'll probably watch the next two episodes and if it's not any better after that I'll give up.

Good to hear your friend's restaurant is blowin up. I'd love to go there if I'm ever down south. I really liked her.

sygyzy--- it's not just the black people on the show who are weird personalities. Every person on the entire network is weird or quirky in some way. "Normal" doesn't cut it on TV. I mean, come on, Alton Brown and Bobby Flay and Emeril? Nothing normal about any of them. The only thing normal about Giada is my fappage.

Food Network personalities I hate: Alton Brown (a wealth of knowledge, but he's just so creepy) the Neelys (it's a wonder they can keep their tongues out of each other's rectums long enough to tape a show) Paula Deen (why must this woman kiss everyone on the lips? and why does she put 5 sticks of butter in everything?) Emeril (fake and clearly on crack) Guy Fieri (a good luck troll with a penchant for fruity drinks...what?) Rachael Ray (no comment) Sandra Lee (she doesn't even really cook!) Ted Allen (the personality of a piece of corrugated cardboard) Ingrid (wow she's annoying) Food Network personalities I'm indifferent to: Bobby Flay (he can cook, but I can't watch him) Food Network personalities I like: Anthony Bourdain (actually entertaining to watch, plus he's got some backbone) Giada di Laurentiis (mostly because she hypnotises me with those jubblies) Mario Batali (can actually cook)
