What do you guys think about this Oxxford suit? Really worth $3700 retail? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....01&rd=1

I don't think that I've ever seen a $3700 Oxxford suit. I haven't even seen a $3000 Oxxford suit. I think that the seller is taking considerable liberties with reality.

ugly collar.

My thought too, the collar looks quite flanky. However it does have a nice slimmer cut and softer shoulder, plus the pants are unpleated, which is my preference. I'm not familiar with Oxxford prices though, what's the usual retail price range for their single-breasted, two piece OTR suits?

Prices have been going up steeply recently, but a regular old Oxxford two piece suit will start at around $2400 or $2500.

Well, is the winning price below average for an Oxxford suit posted on ebay? I've got such impression.

"This suit is an older model"
(Quoted from the auction.) Being that the suit is at least 40 years old, that is an understatement.. So no, it's not worth the money. Oxxfords generally run well under $3700 but there certainly are Oxxfords that cost that much. I believe the new Wilkes models start at $3500. And I've seen them in the Neimans Christmas catalogue with a list price of $3300 for a basic wool model. If you went with a really high-end fabric it could run you more than $3700. And I think the custom suits from Louis Boston start at about $4000 (not positive though.)

if you are a 42R, there is a GREAT oxxford or two on ebay...brown with overcheck, NWT. i had my eye on it, but the jacket might be a tad too long for me, at 31.5".

I can verify that... I've seen Oxxford there for $4000+

Quick question, what do you guys think of Hugo Boss suits?

Foxx, thanks a lot for your info. I've seen two of them (missed the S one since I only entered R in my search, the length is closer to R rather than S). The thing is that right now I don't have much eyes for patterned suits (or shirts, for that matter), so the more solid the colour, the better. I would have bid on the one that I brought up, but somehow I was blocked by the seller for a reason I don't know why. I did ask where the suit is from and also for an authenticity guarantee, dunno if that was offensive for them. No reply whatsoever until I know at the last minute that I was blocked.

If this is true, the seller's a dork, and I would avoid any other auctions he has. I hear Hugo Boss suits are nice for the tall and skinny crowd, but that their construction leaves something to be desired.

Well, I certainly don't recall mentioning anything impolite. Other than several measurement related questions, which also had no reply, that's all my questions to the seller.
