Looking to stay in boston for 3 days 2 nights on a Fri - Sunday type of deal, what are some good recommendations, I can't be paying insane money, but I would like a clean hotel in a decent area with food and shopping and other fun things to do

Westin Copley. Nice, clean, good restaurants nearby, and good location.

+1.

It's the best of both worlds - location and price. Anything like the Lenox, Four Seasons, Ritz, Taj etc will be astronomical in comparison. There is also a Hilton in the financial district, but that's a little farther away from the real action.

Boston is a small city and if you like walking, this is a great season to do it + the T is convenient during the day and a cab at night...the past two times I have gone I used priceline...stayed in Holiday Inn near Gov'tCenter last time for $70 a night. Not as nice as Copley but I didn't want to spend $200+ p/n.

$450 a night is a bit ridiculous... for the Westin Copely as I saw...

What is something between $100-$200 a night

The Kendall should have a room somewhere in that range. Really nice little boutique hotel with a lovely restaurant. Located in Kendall Square, near MIT etc. About equidistant from H Sq. and Boston.

Out of curiosity, what month are you looking at? The reason I ask is most of the colleges in Boston and Cambridge have parent's weekend in late Sep to mid-Oct and can probably explain $420 at the Westin per night.

Also check out the Long Wharf Marriott. Right on the water, across the street from Fanuiel Hall, right near the North End. I think its fairly reasonable too.

Copley is also a good bet due to its proximity to Newbury St.

Anyone have experience with Hotel140, it is near Copley, but in december it is only $139 a night...
I hear it is great if you aren't looking for anything extravagant with your hotel, and just the basics in a great location

By the way, are you sure your work does not have a corporate rate with any of these chains? Do you have any hotel points? There are lots of ways to reduce the cost of a stay.

bumping this. Planning to spend a weekend in boston with a few buddies. Looking at the Marriott in Kendall Park. Supposedly near MIT, not sure how central it is location wise. Any other recs for hotels <$150/night? Also, got a few things in mind so far to do shit with 4 guys: 1) Sam Adams/Harpoon's brewery 2) Some trampoline place my friends want to go. Supposed to be fun but we shall see. 3) Walk around Harvard Sq, check out both campuses. Other ideas welcomed. Thanks.

really, I would not stay in Kendall. it's becoming more residential, but it's still mostly commercial space with only a smattering of nightlife options, and it's not really a charming neighborhood at all.

the new W is supposed to be nice, the Liberty Hotel is cool as well. look on a map, either of those neighborhoods are great. really Boston is a small city so most places around Back Bay/Beacon Hill/even downtown will be fine. Harvard Sq. would also be good, though choices are more limited there.

the Sam Adams brewery is not downtown, and I've never actually been there! The Harpoon brewery is in Southie (also not downtown), besides their quarterly Harpoonfests I'm not sure what goes on there.

I have no idea about trampoline places

Harvard and Harvard Sq. is certainly a nice hood to walk around and go out in. MIT much less so, though Central Sq. nearby has a # of good options...it's much more a locals type of neighborhood though, you won't find many tourist type place in/around Central.
